Roundtable Week 17: Difficult Championship Lineup Decisions

Matt Waldman's Roundtable Week 17: Difficult Championship Lineup Decisions Matt Waldman Published 12/28/2023

Welcome to Week 16 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.

This week's roundtable features these four topics:

Let's roll.

Difficult Championship Lineup Decisions

Matt Waldman: Choose your most difficult lineup decision for this week's games, argue both sides of the choice, and where you're leaning with what we know at press time.

Adam Wilde: I am once again faced with the difficult decision between Geno Smith and Joe Flacco. While the choice seems obvious, Smith has a higher median projection than Flacco. I don't tend to "go with my gut" as I don't view that as a viable long-term strategy, but given I've made it to the Scott Fish Bowl finals, I think I'm going to make this a one-time exception. I'm going to ride the wave with Elite Joe Flacco.

Waldman: If only the media projection factored in how the player looks as a decision-maker as well as his accuracy. In that department, it's Flacco. And that's a fact, not a gut feeling. Good call.

Ben Cummins: My most difficult lineup decision currently is Drake London vs. Jameson Williams. I'm bullish on London's talent and want to rock with him to a championship, but he's on the road in Chicago against a Bears defense that ranks fifth in both EPA/Play Allowed and Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 8.

Meanwhile, Jameson Williams has seen 13 targets over his past two games, is playing in the game with by far the highest Over/Under (53.5) of the week, and has the more favorable matchup against a Cowboys defense that only ranks 25th in EPA/Play Allowed and 29th in Dropback EPA Allowed since Week 8. I'm currently leaning toward starting Williams.
