Roundtable: 5 TEs Trending Up Prior To Free Agency

Jeff Bell's Roundtable: 5 TEs Trending Up Prior To Free Agency Jeff Bell Published 03/11/2023

Free agency is just around the corner. With it comes changes in Dynasty player values. Our staff gathers together to give a preview of players trending in positive or negative directions. Next is tight ends tending up.

Dalton Schultz, Free Agent

Jason Wood - It's an incredibly weak free-agent class, with only Dalton Schultz and Evan Engram projected as impact starters. If Schultz signs with the Chargers, as rumored, it would be a great situation because Kellen Moore knows how to utilize him, and Justin Herbert is an upgrade over Dak Prescott. But if Schultz signs elsewhere, all bets are off.

Chigoziem Okonkwo, Tennessee

Zareh Kantzabedian - Chigoziem Okonkwo's 2023 prospects are looking very bright. In 2022, among tight ends, Okonkowo was first in yards per route run, first in yards per reception, first in fantasy points route run, and second in yards per target. Austin Hooper signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans in 2022 and will likely not return for 2023. Okonkwo is set to explode.

Ben Cummins - The Titans recently released Robert Woods, and they were already one of the least talented teams in terms of receiving weapons in the NFL. They’re going to have to rely on Chigoziem Okonkwo next season whether they want to or not. Okonkwo flashed exciting talent and playmaking ability as a rookie, which is exactly what Tennessee needs more of moving forward.

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay

Kyle Yates - Cameron Brate has been officially released by the Buccaneers, and a big reason for that is the emergence of Cade Otton. I was a big fan of Otton coming into the NFL Draft last season, and he performed well from a fantasy standpoint when Brate was out of the lineup in 2022, which he should only improve from here. Yes, the quarterback uncertainty puts a cap on his ceiling, but we know that you don't have to do a whole lot to be a top-12 fantasy football tight end.
