Here are some players to consider picking up this week, if available, to get ahead of the other managers in your league. These players include potential bye-week fill-ins, players returning from injury, and defenses to consider in advance. Early in the season, this article will also include several rookies who have a good chance to explode later in the season.
As managers scurry to the waiver wire to spend their pennies after week one, know that this week’s article will probably be a mix of players you can use immediately and those to help you get ahead.
Good luck out there!
Beat the Waiver Wire: No-Brainers
In most leagues, these guys aren't available. But if you're fortunate enough to see them on the waiver wire, grab them.
WR Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers (74% rostered on Sleeper)
With 79 yards receiving and two touchdowns, you should check if Johnston is available in your league. The Chargers offense looks potent, Justin Herbert is crisp, and the Chargers have matchups against the Giants and the Dolphins down the road.
Beat the Waiver Wire: Quarterbacks
QB Jaxson Dart, New York Giants (14% rostered on Sleeper)
Russell Wilson had a rough first week, completing only 17 passes for 168 yards. He had Malik Nabers and the Giants faithful yearning for the rookie to take the field, and it may happen sooner than later. Who knows how good Dart will be, but he is worth a stash in case he explodes.
QB Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons (42% rostered on Sleeper)
Penix had 42 attempts on Sunday that led to 298 yards passing and 21 yards on the ground. He had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. The Falcons' offense looks aggressive and confident with Penix under center, despite the loss. He is a great backup to have on your fantasy team and is also startable, especially if he plans to continue running.
Just a reminder to check your waiver wire for: Daniel Jones (29%), Justin Fields (79%).
