Updates from Week 2
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
The team sat starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr.. and backup Kirk Cousins for the preseason opener, giving the nod to Easton Stick. Emory Jones relieved Stick. Penix is beginning to click in camp, with ESPN's Marc Raimondi noting his best throw came on Wednesday and that his touch has noticeably improved. Atlanta should push the ball vertically more with Penix. Cousins is generating more trade rumors than news, though his play has been strong enough that some on the beat speculated he could start over Penix. A trade still feels more likely. Stick could earn the backup role after showing well against Detroit, going 15-of-18 for 149 yards and a touchdown. Jones is a camp arm but a notable local story, having grown up in LaGrange, Georgia, about an hour from Atlanta.
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier are performing as expected, with the team viewing both as high-level starters. The most significant note between the two is that Allgeier handled the goal line work during the team's dress rehearsal scrimmage. Robinson and Allgeier are locked into the top two spots, but the No. 3 role remains open. Carlos Washington Jr. has been a camp riser. Head coach Raheem Morris said, "Watching him really mature throughout the course of last year was absolutely awesome." Washington missed a practice session in a surprise move and did not play in the preseason game. His absence could indicate the team has made a decision on the role. Nathan Carter, Elijah Dotson, and Jashaun Corbin handled preseason work but did not impress.
