Updates from Week 2
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
Trevor Lawrence is having another strong camp under new head coach Liam Coen, who has challenged him to “take over” the team and elevate his leadership. Lawrence excelled on a demanding 100-question offensive install test, outscoring veterans Nick Mullens and John Wolford despite their longer familiarity with the system. Coen’s offense frequently includes two plays in the huddle, with Lawrence responsible for setting protections and getting to the right call at the line. He has embraced holding teammates accountable, insisting on precise execution and attention to detail. In his lone series in this week’s game, Lawrence went 6-of-7 for 43 yards. Mullens handled most of the remaining work, throwing the team’s only passing touchdown. Wolford appears to have a slight edge over rookie Seth Henigan for the No. 3 role based on his earlier playing time.
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
The running back rotation remains unsettled. The first unofficial depth chart listed Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby as co-leads. Bigsby has drawn praise throughout camp and has been considered the No. 1 option by some observers, but Etienne started against the Steelers and handled two carries and one reception on the only drive he played. Bigsby entered for the next two drives, dropped a pass, and mostly worked with backups. There had been trade rumors involving Etienne earlier in camp, but Coen publicly dismissed them. Bhayshul Tuten impressed in his debut with a touchdown run after breaking a tackle. LeQuint Allen Jr. played with the fourth group, catching all four of his targets for 20 yards.
