Updates from Week 2
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
The most anticipated moment of the preseason for the Tennessee Titans came with Cam Ward's first live NFL snaps. The first overall pick opened tentatively, leading a three-and-out on his first drive, but quickly settled in. On his second series, Ward showed poise and command, directing an 11-play, 65-yard touchdown drive that gave the offense its first sustained momentum of the night. He completed five of eight passes for 67 yards on the evening, with all three of his completions on the scoring march going to veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley. That sequence not only put points on the board but also offered a glimpse of the chemistry they have built throughout training camp. While Ward's debut provided optimism, the performances behind him on the depth chart were more concerning. Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle each struggled with decision-making and ball security, throwing one interception apiece, including a pick-six. In the days following the game, Tennessee released Boyle and signed veteran Trevor Siemian, who will compete with Allen for the No. 2 role.
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
Tennessee's ground game started slowly, managing only five total yards in the first quarter, as the offensive line failed to consistently open rushing lanes. Even within that early stagnation, there were notable moments. Tony Pollard punctuated the team's lone touchdown drive with a determined one-yard scoring run, showing his value in short-yardage situations. Rookie Kalel Mullings emerged as the most productive ball carrier, posting 33 yards on seven carries and breaking off a 12-yard gain in the third quarter. Tyjae Spears flashed in the passing game with a 13-yard reception but exited with what is reportedly a high ankle sprain. ESPN's Turron Davenport reported that the injury will sideline Spears for the rest of the preseason, putting his Week 1 availability in doubt. In his absence, Pollard appears set for a heavy workload to start the season, while Mullings will have an opportunity to cement himself as the primary reserve.
