Fantasy Football Impact for Chig Okonkwo with the Washington Commanders
The Commanders have added a potentially dangerous downfield threat to Jayden Daniels' arsenal.
Okonkwo just completed the final season of his four-year rookie contract with the Tennessee Titans, who selected the athletic tight end in the fourth round (143rd overall) of the 2022 draft. Okonkwo, 26, started 42 of the 68 games he's played in over the last four seasons.
As USA Today's Bryan Manning suggested, there's a lot to love about Okonkwo's game.
He's a phenomenal athlete at 6-3, 240 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds when he came out of Maryland in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Okonkwo has speed, but it's what he does with the ball in his hands that's most impressive.
With five catches of 40-plus yards over his career (including a career-high 70-yard touchdown reception against the Texans in 2024), Okonkwo has some Deebo Samuel Sr. to his game after the catch.
He ranked ninth in yards after the catch among tight ends in 2025 with 342.
Over his career, Okonkwo has caught 194 passes for 2,017 yards with eight receiving touchdowns.
He has become more of a move tight end and is used across the formation, from the backfield and the slot to in-line and on the outside.
Zach Ertz drew 91 targets in 2024, running 256 routes (56.6 percent) from the slot.
There's a role in Washington and an opportunity for Okonkwo, one that easily exceeds his current TE35 Average Draft Position (ADP).
That number will certainly rise, but assuming he remains in lower-end TE2 territory, this is a shot worth taking as an upside backup in leagues where you roster multiple tight ends.
