Welcome to the Dynasty Trading Post, where we examine optimizing strategy, roster construction, league formats, and player value oscillations on a weekly basis using completed, real-world dynasty trades.
This week, we will look at early pop players from their training camp reports.
All trades are Superflex unless stated otherwise.
QB Carson Beck, Cardinals
While false positives and false negatives exist during the preseason, Carson Beck certainly impressed in his NFL debut. Beck hit all levels of the field, was comfortable and confident in his dropbacks, and was very accurate. In short, he passed the initial eye test in spades. That said, it was against fringe NFL players on Carolina's defense, and Arizona's veteran quarterbacks, Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II, did not play. Stacking quality performances enhances Beck's odds of being the QB2 for Week 1 or even an outside shot of starting Week 1, but the odds are still in favor of at least Brissett being ahead of the rookie to begin the season.
Instructive Dynasty Trades
- Beck, Jonathan Brooks for 28 1st
- Beck, 27 3rd for Christian Watson
- Beck for 29 1st
- Beck, Makai Lemon, 27 1st for Brock Purdy
The market is on the rise for Beck as a sellable asset, but has not jumped in value like it would if declared the Week 1 starter (or at some point during the season). Beck has been a recommended target player in the 2.01-2.05 range of Superflex rookie drafts and has even gone in the late 1st on occasion of late. That range of rookie drafts has not returned a future 1st all summer, but Beck himself is now approaching that market sentiment. The minimum return to accept in the market is a 2nd to 1st upgrade (and not a 1st from one of the best teams in the league). In select markets, Beck may return a 1st alone, even if you have to push out to 2028 or 2029 where available. The math points to securing the 1st and not risking Beck being buried on the depth chart more than perceived at present or simply not being great with his initial starting opportunities at some point in the future (presumably this season). Also, a final reminder is Beck's profile points to minimal rushing upside, which squeezes his fantasy output even if a successful NFL signal-caller.
WR Ja'Kobi Lane, Ravens
