NFL teams have recently shifted to a committee approach to defensive line deployment, changing how IDP managers draft. Instead of having defensive linemen on each team play nearly every down, teams deploy players as pass-rush/run-down specialists. This has opened the door to more IDP streaming options.
Streaming positions is key to winning leagues. You can't fill every roster spot with studs. You'll always walk away with one position group feeling thin. This weekly article covers IDP streaming matchups for the IDL and Edge positions to help you win your league.
Our Week 6 IDL streamers made a big impact. Nnamdi Madubuike registered five tackles and half a sack, while Milton Williams had three tackles with a sack. Our Edge defenders were a miss. Dre'Mont Jones had three tackles but no splash plays, and although the Ravens registered five sacks against the Browns, Mike Green wasn't one of them. Our sleepers were productive without splash plays. Keeanu Benton had three tackles, two for a loss, and a pass defended. Felix Anudike-Uzomah had four total tackles. Here are the top IDP streaming matchups for Week 7.
IDP Streaming Option: IDL Zach Sieler, Miami Dolphins
Matchup: New York Jets - Ranked 17th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings
Sieler was a top-tier option two years ago, but Father Time may be catching up. His pressure rate (7.86%) and pass-rush win rate (8.4%) are far below the upper echelon of interior defenders. Still, he showed he can wreak havoc in plus matchups. He exploded for three tackles and two sacks in Week 4 against the Vikings (the 10th-most sacks allowed with a bye week).
Sieler has another plus matchup in Week 7 against the New York Jets. They have allowed a tie for the 4th-most sacks with 19. I expect Sieler to attack the Jets' soft pass protection, with a good chance of a big splash play. He is a strong IDP streaming option for Week 7.
IDP Streaming Option: IDL Sheldon Rankins, Houston Texans
Matchup: New York Giants - Ranked 15th in Matt Bitonti's Offensive Line Rankings
The savvy veteran has been solid for the Texans so far this year with two sacks and 21 pressures over the first six weeks. These numbers aren't eye-popping, but he plays alongside two of the league's top edge defenders, Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter. Needless to say, quarterbacks are routinely forced to climb the pocket.
The Giants offensive line has allowed seven sacks over the past two weeks against the Commanders and the Saints. Although the Giants allowed only one sack when J.J. McCarthy (who will start Week 7) entered the game in Week 6, the offensive line has been leaky overall in pass protection. Rankins is a solid Week 7 IDP streaming option.
IDP Streaming Option: Edge Jermaine Johnson II, Tennessee Titans
