Updates from Week 1
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
After thriving in Klint Kubiak's offense in 2025, Sam Darnold has picked up where he left off under new Seahawks OC Brian Fleury. Reports from camp have been overwhelmingly positive, with The Athletic's Gregg Bell describing him as "more the general than a mere commander." Darnold has been lauded by head coach Mike Macdonald for his decisiveness and ball security early on. The proven chemistry between him and receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba remains intact, while several reports have noted his developing on-field relationship with Rasheed Shaheed, who said Darnold "has been amazing this camp." Drew Lock remains the clubhouse leader for the backup job. He's been steady in practice, and as the incumbent, it's his job to lose. Jalen Milroe remains a developmental project but has shown some flashes as he stacks good days. He'll need to fare well during preseason games to move up the depth chart.
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
First-round pick Jadarian Price has been running as the RB1 since camp began. While some teams defer to veterans early in camp, the Seahawks have instilled their confidence in Price from the jump. Observers have noted his explosiveness and ability to make people miss. He's been logging extra time catching passes, indicating the team will need him to contribute in the passing game as well. As is often the case with rookie running backs, pass protection remains a work in progress. He did miss practice late in the week due to what the team is calling lower-body soreness. Behind Price, third-year back George Holani is making the strongest case for the backup role. He's been impressive throughout camp and should be involved no matter how the rotation shakes out. Emanuel Wilson is also in the running, bringing solid experience from his time in Green Bay. The wild card in the room is veteran Zach Charbonnet, who suffered a torn ACL during last season's playoff run. He's sure to miss the beginning of the season, and it would be no surprise if he starts on the reserve/PUP list and misses at least the first four games. His rehab is reportedly going well, but the real indication will come when he returns to the practice field.
