Welcome to Week 4 of the 2026 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.
This week's roundtable features these four topics:
- Large League Super Subs
- For Real, Fool's Gold -- Rookie Edition
- Reserve RBs Worth Adding
- Backfields in Flux
Let's roll...
Matt Waldman: Pick a Reserve RB you'd most like to have on your roster if you had room.
- Najee Harris, NYG
- Keaton Mitchell, LAC
- Woody Marks, HOU
- Emanuel Wilson, SEA
Maurile Tremblay: Woody Marks is the only one of the four with both a significant role right now and a clear path to a much bigger one. Marks is the Texans' RB2 behind David Montgomery, but he's the back the offense wants on the field when Stroud is throwing.
Marks handles third downs and a share of the carries, and in Week 2 he actually out-carried Montgomery and played nearly as many snaps. Montgomery, meanwhile, has been averaging under three yards a carry, and his impact hasn't been worth what Houston spent to get him.
Marks has looked like the livelier runner in all three games, and I'd expect his share to keep growing on an 0-3 offense that has to find something, anything. If Montgomery misses any time, Marks is a bellcow with no one behind him.
The caveat is that his own rushing efficiency has been poor too: 3.0 yards a carry behind a line that hasn't held up. So in weeks where the split stays even, the floor is modest. But receiving work plus a legitimate shot at the lead job is exactly what you want from a bench back.
Darin Tietgen: For me, it's Woody Marks based on his bellcow back ability. Should David Montgomery go down with an injury, Marks would step right in and be able to touch the ball upwards of 20 times a game.
Last season proved Marks could handle a full workload, and the Texans still utilize Marks to spell Montgomery, and he's looked good. Marks is definitely the reserve I'd want just in case.
The backfield I'm avoiding is Green Bay's. The Packers have 146 rushing yards through 3 games, the lowest 3-game total in franchise records dating to 1933, when the ball and helmets were made of leather. Their 3.04 yards per carry ranks last in the league.
