The flip side of succeeding with value players is failing with overvalued players. These players will not put up stats commensurate with their draft spots, and avoiding them is another important key to a successful fantasy team. To identify these players, we asked our staff to review highly rated players and identify those who should underperform their draft position.

Here are the players who received votes.

Jeremiyah Love, Arizona Cardinals

Gary Davenport: Fantasy drafters who select Love at ADP are Charlie Brown barreling toward that football Lucy is holding. He knows full well what's going to happen, but he just can't help himself.

It isn't a matter of talent. There's nothing that Love can't do at a high level. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry at Notre Dame. Topped 1,000 yards each of the past two years. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. He loves puppies and knits a mean sweater.

But Love's situation? Hate it. Arizona's quarterback will either be a career backup in Jacoby Brissett or a rookie in Carson Beck, who had as much business being a third-round pick as Dillon Gabriel the year before. Arizona has a bottom-10 offensive line—in fact, FBG's own Matt Bitonti ranked it 27th in the NFL. Positive game scripts are going to be few and far between.

We literally just watched this movie with Ashton Jeanty in Vegas a year ago—a generational talent who averaged 1.6 yards per attempt before contact playing on a terrible team. Jeanty's RB11 fantasy finish in PPR wasn't awful, but it's drafting at ceiling

Drafting at ceiling is bad.

Jason Wood: Jeremiyah Love projects as a transcendent talent who will help fantasy managers win leagues for years to come. But at his current ADP, he is not going to help you capture this year's crown. Love landed in the absolute worst spot imaginable, essentially falling into the same fantasy quagmire that kept Ashton Jeanty from living up to his rookie preseason hype.

The Cardinals are a poorly run organization with questionable process. They possess one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL and will start either a career journeyman in Jacoby Brissett or an overly aggressive, turnover-prone rookie in Carson Beck. As if that weren't enough, the team is entrusting Mike LaFleur and Nathaniel Hackett to fix things. They have a combined 10 seasons of NFL play-calling and have averaged a woeful 24th-place finish.

To compound matters, Arizona prioritized signing Tyler Allgeier in free agency, and will likely keep James Conner or Trey Benson on the roster, too. Love should get enough volume to be a serviceable fantasy asset, but the last thing you want to do in the first two or three rounds is draft a player at his absolute ceiling.

Tipp Major: Overrated might actually be too kind when describing Jeremiyah Love's fantasy value. The second draft-pick panic sets in, and his name starts climbing the queue, sitting back and letting another buffoon light their roster on fire.

No, this is not rookie hazing. It is roster reality.

Start with the Cardinals' backfield. James Conner is still there. Trey Benson still needs touches. And perhaps the biggest buzzkill of all? Tyler Allgeier arrived this offseason, which could absolutely crush Love's red-zone opportunities. Not even Bijan Robinson could fully keep Allgeier away from goal-line work. What makes fantasy managers think things suddenly change in the desert?

Not enough to scare you off, this will.  New head coach Mike LaFleur has already emphasized explosive plays and rotational usage. While Love certainly fits the explosive-play mold, hearing “committee approach” attached to an expensive fantasy asset should make managers break out in hives. Selling now might not be a bad idea. Once this backfield fully takes shape, Love could be headed for one of the most frustrating weekly workloads in fantasy football.

Andy Hicks: With the dearth of rookie running back talent entering the league this season, all hopes are essentially being placed on Jeremiyah Love. No matter how much talent and potential he has, he will find it difficult to overcome the myriad of issues facing him in 2026.

Arizona was not expected to be a destination for Love until the final days leading into the draft. The team had already taken Tyler Allgeier in free agency, re-signed James Connor, and expected Trey Benson back from injury. That would have been a strong depth chart. Adding Love means there is no clear fantasy winner. It also means Love can acclimatize to the NFL. We already have the Cardinals with one of the weakest projected offensive lines heading into the year, paired with an uninspiring choice of head coach and offensive coordinator.

Sometimes, a rookie running back is so good that he can overcome all issues in front of him. With his ADP and likely uphill climb to reach elite status in his rookie season, it is best to let Jeremiyah Love go in redraft leagues. In dynasty leagues, go all out as talent usually wins out.
