Beyond the Stats: Week 2

Jeff Haseley's Beyond the Stats: Week 2 Jeff Haseley Published 09/17/2015

Did You Know?

Experience wins out - Six quarterbacks passed for 300+ yards in Week 1. Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Sam Bradford and Carson Palmer. The average age of those quarterbacks is 33.6 years old. Five of the six were 33 years or older.

A sign of things to come?  Ryan Mallett was the only one of 11 quarterbacks with a QB rating over 100 that lost his game.

Workhorse in Chicago - Matt Forte was the only running back to have more than one play of 20 yards or more in Week 1 - He did it three times.

More rushing opportunities coming? Darren Sproles averaged 10 yards per carry on five carries in Week 1. Three of his five carries went for a first down.

35 different quarterbacks threw a pass in Week 1 - every single one had a passing play longer than Matt McGloin's long of 14 yards. Interestingly enough, the next quarterback on the list was Peyton Manning, who's longest passing play was 18 yards.

Is the sun setting on Peyton Manning? Manning has played in 17 Week 1 games in his career. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in all but two, 2003 and 2015. The lowest passing yardage total of the 17 games occured last week, 175 yards.
