LaPorta's back surgery concerns me just enough that I want to monitor LaPorta with initial skepticism before bumping him up my board.
Back procedures are volatile scenarios and unique to each athlete. The addition of Tyler Conklin as a hedge is an expected move for any team with a key player rehabbing.
Still, Jameson Williams' emergence further reduces the need for the Lions to lean hard on LaPorta in the passing game. If LaPorta makes a full recovery, I'm still thinking his fantasy value will be on the cusp of starter production in most formats instead of being on the cusp of the top five.
