Welcome to the dynasty trading post, where optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations are examined weekly in example and completed dynasty trades.
QUARTERBACKS
Theme of the Week: Profile Hunting
Dak Prescott is a key player to explore in the buy (and sell) market in dynasty leagues. As a buyer, the price can easily dip into the QB10-15+ range with half of this fantasy regular season in doubt, or gone, for Prescott. Plus, the optics of Dallas struggling in Week 1, even with Prescott, will loom for GMs. In premium formats (Superflex, 2QB), a team losing Prescott might be without any stability for a second starting NFL starter with eyes towards contending post-Week 1.
- Key trade idea: Geno Smith, 23 1st for Prescott
This deal was executed post-Week 1 and exemplifies the dialogue above. Smith is a warm body at quarterback and a lone future 1st is a requisite price for a quarterback in the mid-teens of the position or even lower. This is hunting a quality long-term profile to build a dynasty juggernaut instead of value (or overvaluing) the next handful of weeks.
- Key trade idea: Gabriel Davis, 23 1st for Prescott, 23 2nd
This deal is pricier than the first one but still a value point. Receiving the 2nd softens giving up the 1st, but Davis is a much stronger asset to give than Geno Smith. Other ideas to acquire Prescott would be to flip QB20+ types like Matt Ryan, Davis Mills, etc. to offer a starting option to the Prescott team while acquiring a more stable long-term profile.
- Key trade idea: Zach Wilson, Devin Singletary, George Pickens for Prescott
