Week 5 Offensive Sleepers

Sigmund Bloom's Week 5 Offensive Sleepers Sigmund Bloom Published 10/06/2022

Quarterback

Geno Smith, Seattle (at New Orleans)

Smith has been a solid to very good fantasy option this season except when he faced the San Francisco 49ers, whose defense is on a record-breaking pace right now. The Saints defense isn’t as scary as their rankings and stats suggest because they have faced Marcus Mariota, a very short-handed Tom Brady, Baker Mayfield, and Kirk Cousins. They should be a bit weary after playing in London last week, and Smith is riffing with his elite wide receiver combination and tight end committee.

Teddy Bridgewater, Miami (at NY Jets)

Bridgewater showed last week that the Dolphins offense won’t drop off much, if at all, when he is in at quarterback. The Jets have been a generous offense, including allowing two touchdowns to rookie Kenny Pickett in a half last week. Bridgewater showed great chemistry with Tyreek Hill last week, and Jaylen Waddle’s groin should be feeling better after having three extra days to rest following the Thursday night game.

Zach Wilson, New York Jets (vs Miami)

Wilson looked like a quarterback who turned the corner in his development in the fourth-quarter comeback win over the Steelers last week. He is surrounded by talent at wide receiver and running back, and he’s facing a Miami defense that will be trotting a less-than-full-speed Xavien Howard out there. Wilson also has a boosted fantasy floor and ceiling due to his occasional willingness to run.

Derek Carr, Las Vegas (at Kansas City)

The Raiders just succeeded with a Josh Jacobs-centric offense last week, but they may not have the luxury of sticking with the run at Arrowhead Monday night. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers fell behind quickly and were forced to throw the ball 52 times in Week 4. The Chiefs have not scored fewer than 28 points with four games of 40 or more points in the last eight matchups with the Raiders, which should spur Carr to throw more this week.
