2023 NFL Combine Recap: Day 6

Notable News Of the Day

The New England Patriots are expected to release Brian Hoyer.

The news of the day here, ladies and gentlemen!

Bryce Young checked in over 200 pounds.

We always knew that Young was going to be shy of 6 feet tall, which he was at just 5-foot-10, but we didn't know how light he was going to be. His nutritionist worked wonders over the time period leading up to the NFL Combine, though, as the incoming star rookie clocked in at exactly 204 pounds. He's still going to be one of the lightest quarterbacks the league has seen, and he's certainly not going to play at that weight, but this checked a box for NFL talent evaluators. Young will still easily go within the top five picks of this draft.

Devon Achane plans to run WR drills on Sunday.

Achane - the blazing-fast running back prospect out of Texas A&M - has elite speed. However, he has question marks surrounding his role at the next level due to his size, which is listed at just 185 pounds. Answering questions about his receiving ability will go a long way to boosting his NFL Draft stock if teams know he can fill the receiving down role in their backfield.

Jordan Addison checked in at just 173 pounds.

The star USC wide receiver is a lot lighter than people anticipated. While we knew he wasn't going to break the scales or anything, Addison is going to have a lot of teams concerned about using top-15 draft capital on him at that weight. He's simply an outlier. On top of that, he did not have a particularly good day of testing. We'll have to wait and see how this combination of size and poor testing could affect his draft stock. Additionally, he did report later some tightness in his back, and he'll try to improve on his testing numbers at his pro day on March 21.

Kayshon Boutte delivers an underwhelming performance.

Boutte was hyped up as the crown jewel of this wide receiver class just a year ago, but he has experienced a massive slide down draft boards since that point. On top of a lack of production and injuries at LSU, plus plenty of rumored off-the-field issues, Boutte delivered a very poor performance in the athletic testing department on Saturday. It wouldn't surprise me at this point to see Boutte slide to late Day 3.

Jalin Hyatt felt tightness in his hamstring and exited the Combine early.

Hyatt had one of the more impressive workouts on Saturday at the wide receiver position but felt a bit of tightness in his hamstring and did not participate past that point. He plans on participating at his pro day on March 30.
