Overvalued Players: The 1 Linebacker to Avoid

Overvalued players can derail your entire season. The Footballguys staff warns of linebackers who are overvalued.

The flip side of succeeding with undervalued players is failing with overvalued players. They can clog your roster and never seem to match your expectations. Avoiding them is another of the important keys to a successful fantasy team. To point out these players, we asked our staff to identify players available in the top half of your draft who should underperform their draft position. Thanks to the folks at TheIDPShow.com for the ADP.

Here is the player who was a unanimous answer:

And here are the reasons why.

Kyle Bellefeuil: Queen is coming off an excellent 2023 season for Baltimore, compiling a career-best 133 tackles (84 solos), while also adding nine tackles for loss and three-and-a-half sacks. The stellar season led to Queen getting paid by Pittsburgh during free agency, signing a three-year $41 million deal. While Queen is set to be the Steelers' field general, the scheme isn't as IDP-friendly as Baltimore's due to its linebacker deployment and coverage tendencies. I like Queen as a player, but he could fail to live up to his current LB10 ADP with his new squad.

Gary Davenport: Queen's 2023 campaign was easily his best—in his fourth season, he posted a career-high 133 total tackles and played 97 percent of Baltimore's defensive snaps, finishing 15th in fantasy points at the position. Therein lies the problem—Queen is being drafted as though he's going to finish several spots higher than last year's career numbers, despite the fact he is playing in a new defense with the Steelers. Not to keep beating the proverbial dead horse—but drafting players at their ceiling is bad.

Tripp Brebner: Fantasy gamers and analysts are again falling for the Steelers' high-priced linebacker. Each time, they're disappointed (e.g., Cody Barton, Myles Jack, Devin Bush). The player neither plays full-time nor delivers tackles at high rates per snap. With a cornerback trio of Joey Porter Jr, Donte Jackson, and Cameron Sutton, the Steelers will show man coverage at a relatively high rate, suppressing Patrick Queen's fantasy ceiling in the middle.
