The month of June kicked off with a bang in the NFL—with a trade involving a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, a Defensive Rookie of the Year, and a boatload of draft pick compensation.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cleveland Browns sent edge-rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for edge-rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 Round 1 Pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.
What it Means for the Rams
It means that Rams general manager Les Snead wasn't kidding when he said "**** those picks."
The Rams have already been wildly aggressive this offseason, sending one of their first-rounders in 2026 to Kansas City for cornerback Trent McDuffie. Now the team has gone next-level on the whole "win now" thing.
Los Angeles already had one of the league's better defensive fronts with Verse and Byron Young on the edge and Braden Fiske and Kobie Turner inside. Now the Rams have the best front four in the NFL—full stop.
That sobbing you hear is the other quarterbacks in the NFC West.
What It Means for the Browns
There had been speculation for months that Garrett could be traded. It's a deal that will no doubt leave fans conflicted. Trading away the best player in a deal can be a tough pill to swallow, especially with Cleveland getting just one first-rounder back in return.
But it's not a bad move by the Browns.
The reality is that Garrett was a 30-year-old player on a bad team who wasn't going to turn the franchise's fortunes around single-handedly. The Browns need young assets. Draft capital.
They got both in this deal.
Verse hasn't been the game-wrecker that Garrett has been over two seasons, but he has been consistent—the Dayton, Ohio, native has topped 55 tackles in both seasons. Verse raised his sack total from 4.5 as a rookie to 7.5 last year. His pass rush win rate was almost 17 percent last year, and Verse registered 80 pressures.
He's also just 25 years old and is under team control on a rookie deal for two more years—three with a fifth-year-option.
