Disclaimer
NFL Showdown can be a fickle beast. Success in these contests doesn't come from blindly following median projections, but from creating leverage and building unique rosters. Fading the most popular plays can be risky, yet the biggest edges usually come from identifying the right low-rostered pivots and pairing them creatively with the slate's juggernauts.
With both DraftKings and FanDuel now using similar formats — a multiplier slot (Captain/MVP) that costs 1.5x salary and earns 1.5x points — the nuances between sites come down to scoring systems and contest dynamics. DraftKings' full PPR scoring and larger prize pools reward a slightly different decision-making process than FanDuel's half-PPR and softer fields, but the core principles of Showdown roster construction apply across both.
The advice in this article pertains predominantly to tournament lineups and strategy. For cash builds, median projections remain your best guide. For head-to-head contests, consider projections as well, but when two players have similar projections, side with the lower-rostered option.

Quarterback
Brock Purdy - Captain/Flex
Brock Purdy leads the NFL in touchdown passes (13). He ranks second in Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (9.32) and fourth in DraftKings points per game at the quarterback position (23.7). Purdy runs a 49ers offense that ranks fourth in EPA/Play. He's playing at home against a Commanders defense that ranks middle of the pack in both Dropback EPA Allowed (17th) and EPA/Play Allowed (15th).
Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End
Christian McCaffrey - Captain/Flex
On the one hand, Christian McCaffrey's usage and production have significantly decreased from last season:
Format = Ranking (Statistic)
| Opportunities per Game | Targets per Game | Carries per Game | Total Yards per Game | Team Rush Attempt Share | RB Team Target Share | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 20th (17.2) | 7th (4.8) | 28th (12.2) | 28th (84.6) | 28th (43.9%) | 2nd (16.9%) |
| 2025 | 1st (26.6) | 1st (7.2) | 3rd (18.9) | 2nd (129.3) | 4th (64.7%) | 1st (21.3%) |
On the other hand, Deebo Samuel Sr. is now out, and McCaffrey remains heavily involved in the 49ers' passing game. He has five touchdowns over his past four games. This is a: Trust the Hall of Fame talent in a fantastic game environment situation.
Mike Evans - Captain/Flex if Active
Mike Evans is questionable due to ribs and Achilles injuries. However, if active, he's a great play. Evans leads the 49ers in targets (34), receptions (24), and receiving yards (326). In the entire NFL, he ranks sixth in Team Air Yard Share (46%), fourth in Yards Per Route Run (3.29), third in Average Separation Score (0.191), third in Average Separation Score Against Man (0.438), fifth in Average Separation Score Against Zone (0.158), third in ESPN Analytics Overall Score (94), third in ESPN Analytics Open Score (84), and first in ESPN Analytics Catch Score (99). Evans is playing great and getting healthier, making him a strong play.
George Kittle - Captain/Flex
George Kittle's route rates by week, respectively: 47.2%, 52%, 89.3%, 85.3%, and 79.4%. After a two-week ramp-up, Kittle has been unleashed, and he's playing great ball. At the tight end position, he ranks seventh in receiving yards per game (53.6), first in touchdowns (4), and third in Yards Per Route Run (2.39).
Brandin Cooks - Flex
Brandin Cooks had a 35.3% Route Rate and caught a touchdown last week. With Deebo Samuel Sr. out due to a hamstring injury, as just the latest in a long line of wide receiver injuries in San Francisco, Cooks projects to have his playing time massively increased as the 49ers' wide receiver two in this favorable matchup.
Christian Kirk - Flex if Active
Christian Kirk began the season on short-term Injured Reserve. However, he could be activated for this game. He is listed as questionable after practicing all week. If active, and it sounds like that is the way it is trending, Kirk is the favorite to run more routes than both Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing.
Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing - Large Field Tournament Flexes
If Christian Kirk is not activated this week, then both Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are in play in large field tournaments. Last week, Watkins had a 23.5% route rate, and Cowing had a 44.1% route rate.
D/ST
49ers D/ST
In Jayden Daniels' first game back since his elbow injury, the Giants defense sacked him five times last week. The Giants defense had only three sacks in four games entering last week's contest against the Commanders. The 49ers are 7.5-point home favorites.
