Updates from Week 1
Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks
After last season's devastating Achilles tear, Daniel Jones appears to be returning seamlessly early in camp. According to team transcripts, Jones said, "I've felt really good, and I'll continue to stay on the recovery part of it, make sure I'm available and out here every day." There is a competition for the backup quarterback job between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard, with early reports indicating the team will carry three quarterbacks this season. When asked about the competition, OC Jim Bob Cooter said, "It's neck and neck right now." While Richardson does have familiarity with the team, he is still dealing with issues, including timing and anticipation, and securing the snap has been a problem, as he has bobbled or dropped several shotgun snaps. Riley Leonard, meanwhile, drew praise from tight end Tyler Warren this week. Warren, speaking to media after the team's first padded practice, called Leonard "a baller" who "gets in the game and makes plays."
Preseason Updates: Running Backs
Jonathan Taylor signed a two-year extension worth $44 million on Thursday, keeping him in Indianapolis for three more seasons. The new contract makes him the second-highest-paid player at his position, behind only Bijan Robinson. A new name is emerging in the battle for the RB2 spot, with Seth McGowan impressing coaches and fans alike, according to Sports Illustrated's Noah Compton. The Colts are looking for a physical back to complement Taylor's play style, and McGowan, the team's seventh-round rookie pick, appears to be that option after the first full week of camp. The team also hosted Kenny McIntosh and Marcus Major Jr. this week.
