Fixing Your Dynasty Team, Week 3

Jordan McNamara's Fixing Your Dynasty Team, Week 3 Jordan McNamara Published 09/22/2022

In Superflex dynasty leagues, upgrading your quarterbacks should always be front of mind. There are three profiles to target in season. One is to pay the price to move up to elite quarterbacks at the top of the market. Trading for Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes II, or Justin Herbert is certainly a great option but can be very expensive. Second, there is the potential to trade for a potential long-term star quarterback at a discount. These trades can include injured quarterbacks or those off to a slow start. Third is the option to trade for a quarterback with elite potential in the near term that is undervalued by the market because of age.

This article focuses on the later two trades: ideas on how to acquire discount star quarterbacks and shorter-term elite upside options.

Acquiring A Star

If you are going to try to improve your Superflex dynasty team, trading for an elite quarterback is the best place to start.

Quarterbacks with multiple fantasy starter seasons under their belt are great bets to do it in the future. Dak Prescott has had a tumultuous past three years in dynasty perception, but his profile is elite. He left the 2020 season in his fifth game of the season with a devasting ankle injury. At the time, he was on pace for over 5,900 yards passing. Prescott was injured in game five of the season, and his first four games were the best four-game start to a season by a quarterback in NFL history.

He returned in 2021 and quarterbacked the Dallas Cowboys to the number one offense in football. He suffered a freak injury in Week 1 when he struggled against a strong defense.

Prescott has been a strong producer who is currently trading at a discount. Pickett is an unproven quarterback who was the first quarterback selected in the 2022 NFL Draft at the 20th pick in the draft. He was a late breakout, who does not profile as a rushing threat. His use as a dynasty asset is best as a quarterback in a deal for an elite quarterback. Attaching Pickett to two future first-round picks is a discount for a top 8 option at the position. It can be very difficult to trade for a quarterback without giving up a quarterback, and Pickett can be a useful asset in that type of trade. This major discount on Prescott is only possible because of his current injury.
