7 Injury-Away RBs To Consider For Dynasty

Jordan McNamara's 7 Injury-Away RBs To Consider For Dynasty Jordan McNamara Published 05/28/2023

One of the best parts about dynasty fantasy football leagues is the year-long commitment to the team. The ongoing nature of dynasty teams creates a lot of advantages for GMs who use good strategy and roster construction. Free agency, trades, the NFL Draft, and the different news cycles lead to different strategies for different positions. This series will focus on different moves to make this month.

Move to Make: Adding Potential Injury-Away RBs Off Waivers

Roster building should be a constant attempt to optimize your dynasty team. The main thrust of your efforts during the offseason should be acquiring elite players, but running back is the one position where you have the highest odds of adding impactful players off waivers.

Early in the offseason, there will be opportunities to add running backs who could be an injury away from starting roles during the season. While a lot of focus will naturally be on where rookies fall on depth charts, veteran running backs can be even cheaper additions from the waiver wire.

When your waiver wire opens, consider taking cheap fliers on some of these options that are available in 50% or more of MyFantasyLeague.com leagues:

Pierre Strong Jr (51%)/Kevin Harris (76%)/Ty Montgomery (90%), New England

The New England Patriots added James Robinson to the backfield in free agency, but it is no guarantee he is the injury away back in September. Robinson suffered a torn Achilles while he was in Jacksonville, then was traded to the New York Jets before week 8. However, Robinson only played four games, and the team soured on him in favor of Zonovan Knight.

Head coach Bill Belichick has a history of reclamation projects succeeding, but this is a good situation to invest in a back other than Robinson as a potential injury-away option. Pierre Strong has the highest roster rate (49%), but Ty Montgomery has been the subject of offseason praise, and Kevin Harris is still on the roster. Taking a cheap flier on one or more of these options is advisable while the offseason sorts itself out.

Keaontay Ingram (54%), Arizona

Arizona projects to be one of the worst teams in the league this season, and the team did nothing to add to the running back position behind James Conner. This leaves 2022 sixth-round pick Keontay Ingram as the current odds-on favorite to be the injury-away running back behind Conner.
