As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be complete busts, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will disappoint this year and underperform their average draft position (ADP).

This is a weekday series that will stretch through August 1. If you like this and want another, come back the next workday. Another will be here.

Please note that our staff has identified the players listed below. The official Footballguys stance for every Jet can be found on our projections page.

Busts on the New York Jets

Reasons WR Garrett Wilson Could Be a Bust

  • Maurile Tremblay: Round-3 price needs a top-10 finish that Fields' streaky arm and the Jets' likely low pass volume make hard to achieve.
  • Jeff Haseley: Justin Fields' past history of failing to put up big games with his arm concerns me for any hope of Wilson being worth his draft position.
  • Meng Song: The college teammate narrative is overblown. Wilson will have nice games, but I wouldn't want to rely on him as an every-week WR2.
  • Andy Hicks: Wilson and Justin Fields may have their moments, but the high price to get Wilson makes the price prohibitive for expected returns.
  • Julia Papworth: Wilson has survived on pure volume during his time in the league, and Fields has never been incredibly successful through the air, with only one season of over 2500 passing yards. Wilson's success depends on the success of his college buddy Fields, and at Wilson's current ADP, that is not a bet I want to take.
  • Craig Lakins: I'd be more comfortable with Wilson if he had an ADP in the 4th or 5th round. He's the only wideout that opposing defenses will need to key in on.

Reasons RB Breece Hall Could Be a Bust

  • Tipp Major: Hall is the only option for me that I am down on in the Jets offense that has fantasy relevance.  It's more his ADP at the moment, where I'd much rather have players like Rashee Rice, Omarion Hampton, or Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
  • Phil Alexander: If Allen gets more work than expected, it'll come at Hall's expense, and some short rushing scores will go to Justin Fields, too.
  • David Zacharias: New HC Aaron Glenn wants a three-man RB rotation. QB Fields likes to run. That combination doesn't translate to a top-15 season for Hall.

Reasons QB Justin Fields Could Be a Bust

  • Jason Wood: His rushing abilities provide him a floor, but he's being drafted like a proven dual-threat option. Yet he's lost his starting job on two teams already, and is among the most turnover-prone players of his generation. I'd be surprised if he remains the starter for the entire season.
  • Jeff Blaylock: His rushing prowess makes up for some of his passing deficiencies, but he practically needs to lead the league in rushing to pay off his ADP.

Reasons No One Could Be a Bust

  • Colton Dodgson: I don't necessarily see a player on the Jets who scares me away at cost. People are down on the Jets. It might cause Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall to slip further than they should.
  • Jeff Bell: The only players carrying acquisition costs high enough to earn the bust label are Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. Hall's current price is very conservative relative to his upside after some early comments about a backfield committee caused an ADP freefall.

Reason CB Sauce Gardner Could Be a Bust

  • Kyle Bellefeuil: Sauce Gardner finished last season as CB64, via Footballguys scoring. Teams don't often test the talented cornerback, making him a better NFL asset than a fantasy asset, even in true-position IDP formats.

Reason WR Josh Reynolds Could Be a Bust

  • Ben Cummins: Reynolds is a starting wide receiver on the depth chart. Do not utilize depth chart drafting in this case. Stay far away.

Reason LB Quincy Williams Could Be a Bust

  • Tripp Brebner: Williams will be okay, but his low tackle efficiency will resurface in 2025 in the new defense, making him a low-floor LB1 at his ADP.
