Updates from Week 1

Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks

Dak Prescott's personal life made headlines this offseason, but he doesn't appear to have let the situation impact his preparedness for the 2026 campaign. The veteran has looked sharp and in control of OC Brian Schottenheimer's offense in camp. That's no surprise. Prescott has entered his 11th season with championship expectations, even bringing a "G.O.T.I." (Greatest Offense There Is) mindset to an offense looking to build on last year's top-tier production. Schottenheimer has tested the unit's comfort level by ceding play-calling duties to coordinator Klayton Adams for select red-zone periods. While Prescott is entrenched and a known commodity, a spirited competition is underway for the backup spot. Sam Howell and Joe Milton III have both looked sharp for much of early camp, and beat writers see the battle as too close to call. Howell brings baseline starter experience, but Milton has shown noticeable growth in pocket composure and touch, making real strides to keep this race dead even.

Preseason Updates: Running Backs

Javonte Williams signed a lucrative multi-year extension this offseason and is the unquestionable centerpiece of Dallas' ground game. Despite financial security and clarity on his role, he remains one of the hardest-working players in practice. Adams has noted a desire to expand Williams' role beyond direct runs, highlighting his quick feet and efficiency in outside zone concepts. While it's too early to cement the rest of the depth chart, all indications are that second-year Jaydon Blue is in control as the handcuff. Blue took constructive criticism from an uneven rookie season, stayed in the playbook, and is putting that motivation into action with an impressive camp. "I took those lessons to heart," Blue said. "I didn't want to come in here and start slow like I did last year. I wanted to make sure I came in here, started fast, and proved myself." Assuming Blue continues apace, the real question is whether Malik Davis or Phil Mafah claims the RB3 role. Mafah has shown increased explosiveness, while Davis has fallen behind due to early pass-blocking struggles.
