Updates from Week 1

Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks

The John Harbaugh era is officially underway in East Rutherford, with OC Matt Nagy tasked with molding a raw, explosive young core into a cohesive NFL attack. At the center of that operation is second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. After electrifying fans during a two-month stretch in his debut campaign, Dart has focused this summer on building process discipline and mastering a pro-style system. It has been an up-and-down start to camp at The Greenbrier. Dart has shown impressive accuracy in structured situational periods, but he has also labored through multi-interception sessions when facing complex blitz schemes. The transitional friction is by design. Former head coach Brian Daboll leaned heavily on Ole Miss RPO concepts, running shotgun on 79.9% of Dart's snaps. Nagy and Harbaugh are forcing Dart under center far more often to set up a heavier run game, requiring him to turn his back to the defense and navigate multi-layered field reads. Despite the growing pains, the coaching staff has remained patient. Dart has continued to connect on deep intermediate routes and has shown good ownership of the offense off the field to clean up mistakes between practices. As Harbaugh noted, "You can't even imagine how much there is for a quarterback to operate with, especially in a new offense... He's pushing the envelope. He's also competing at the same time." Jameis Winston remains a double-edged sword behind Dart. He has put together an erratic week in West Virginia, combining inaccurate, turnover-worthy throws with the occasional explosive downfield connection to the second-string receivers.

Preseason Updates: Running Backs

Cam Skattebo entered his second year knowing he has to mature, and he has not run away from that self-assessment. After a gruesome fractured ankle cut short his debut year, Skattebo made headlines this offseason for off-field antics, including a botched stage backflip that drew public ribbing from Harbaugh. "I do some dumb things here and there, but I learn from it," Skattebo admitted. On the field, Skattebo has looked fully healthy. He participated in all 10 practices in West Virginia, setting the physical tone in early run drills and taking the majority of first- and second-down work. Tyrone Tracy Jr. has locked himself in as the No. 2 option. Tracy has taken the bulk of two-minute and third-down snaps, showcasing his receiving chops out of the backfield. Veteran Devin Singletary remains a reliable rotational piece, while Dante Miller has quietly pushed his way onto the roster bubble with explosive open-field running.
