Week 9 is shaping up to be another week where fantasy managers will need to pay close attention to the injury report. Several big names are dealing with lingering injuries, while others are inching closer to a return. As always, not all questionable designations are created equal, and understanding the nature of an injury and practice participation trends can help separate legitimate concerns from precautionary measures. Let's break down the latest injury updates and what they mean for your fantasy lineups this weekend.
WR Amon-Ra St. Brown | 1:00 PM EST Kickoff
Amon-Ra St. Brown was limited throughout the week with a rib injury, but this practice trend isn't particularly concerning, as teams often limit contact for players dealing with these injuries. St. Brown also boasts one of the best Recovery Scores, a metric comparing his historical time missed to positional averages. Given his strong track record, I'm optimistic he'll be active in Week 9. Assuming he suits up, fantasy managers should feel comfortable keeping him in their starting lineups.
WR Jordyn Tyson | 1:00 PM EST Kickoff
The Saints opened Jordyn Tyson's practice window, but he remained limited throughout the week as he recovers from a hamstring injury. It was announced Saturday that Tyson would make his season debut in Week 9. While fantasy managers who held onto the rookie WR have been patient, I would recommend they wait a bit longer before putting Tyson into lineups. I expect there will be a ramp-up period
RB Cam Skattebo | 1:00 PM EST Kickoff
Cam Skattebo managed just one limited practice on Friday and is officially doubtful for Week 9, making it highly unlikely he plays. With Tyrone Tracy Jr. also on IR, the Giants' backfield is extremely thin heading into the weekend. Devin Singletary should take over as the lead back and see a significant increase in touches. Given the expected workload, Singletary is an intriguing flex option for fantasy managers in need of running back help.
WR Emeka Egbuka | 8:20 PM EST Kickoff - SUNDAY NIGHT
Emeka Egbuka missed Wednesday's practice with a foot injury before practicing fully Thursday and Friday. He remains questionable, and head coach Todd Bowles described him as a game-time decision for Sunday night. However, given his practice participation, I fully expect Egbuka to be active in Week 9. Fantasy managers should feel comfortable keeping him in their starting lineups as a WR2 option, although there is some added risk, so have a late-game pivot ready. Baker Mayfield has struggled since returning from his thumb injury, which could limit Egbuka's fantasy ceiling even if he's fully healthy.
