Each week FanDuel will be running a Sunday Million GPP Contest and we will break it down here at Footballguys.com and see what the keys were to having the top lineup on the week and taking home the top prize.
Here is how Week 9 of the Sunday Million shook out:
|
DFS Screen Name | Points | Prize Money |
1st | mwarden20 | 189.24 | $300,000 |
2nd | joeyfandueljoey | 184.74 | $150,000 |
3rd | dburcombe | 179.88 | $75,000 |
4th | gsil | 178.74 | $40,000 |
5th | imavisionary | 178.04 | $20,000 |
The winning lineup by mwarden20 contained plenty of chalk-level picks of the week outside of sharp-shooting Jared Goff's near-4x value return on 4% ownership. Even without stacking Goff with any of his pass-catchers, mwarden20 loved the Rams' matchup against the Giants with Todd Gurley, Greg Zuerlein, and the Rams defense locked into their lineup. All of them hit more than 2x value. Todd Gurley was the lone stud-priced selection as the rest were moderate salaries for their positions including Alvin Kamara, T.Y. Hilton, and Ted Ginn Jr.
Position | Player | Salary | FanDuel Points | Ownership |
QB | Jared Goff | $7,600 | 28.4 | 4% |
RB | Todd Gurley | $9,100 | 23.4 | 28% |
RB | Alvin Kamara | $6,600 | 28.2 | 10% |
WR | Doug Baldwin | $7,900 | 20.3 | 10% |
WR | T.Y. Hilton | $6,600 | 32.0 | 12% |
WR | Ted Ginn Jr Jr. | $5,700 | 13.9 | 13% |
TE | Evan Engram | $6,300 | 15.0 | 9% |
K | Greg Zuerlein | $5,300 | 17.0 | 7% |
DST | Rams | $4,800 | 11.0 | 14% |
$59,900 | 189.24 |
WHAT WORKED?
Russell Wilson: At 16% ownership, Wilson was owned by three of the top-10 finishers. Despite plenty of empty yards and just 14 points against Washington, Wilson amassed 297 yards through the air and another 77 on the ground with two total touchdowns for 3x value.
Dak Prescott: With 14% ownership, Prescott's two-way prowess fueled his 3x value against the Chiefs including 276 total yards and three total touchdowns.
Todd Gurley: The Rams workhorse was in 28% of lineups overall and 90% of the top-10 finishers. Despite the high salary, Gurley found the end zone twice and totaled more than 100 yards to a 2.5x value finish on the week.
Alvin Kamara: The rookie back has been on a tear since Adrian Peterson was traded a month ago. Kamara's 10% ownership turned into 70% of the top-10 finishers and his 4.3x value return marked his highest of the season. Despite losing a fumble, Kamara totaled more than 150 yards and found the end zone twice in the Saints' blowout victory.
Adrian Peterson: With 19% ownership, the matchup was a good game script for Arizona to ride their feature back. Peterson set a record for carries in a game by a 30+ year old running back and hit more than 2x value with 167 total yards.
T.Y. Hilton: After three straight dud performances (less than 1x value), Hilton exploded against Houston for nearly 5x value as the Colts pulled the upset over Houston. Hilton's big plays supported his 175-yard day, including two touchdowns.
Jaguars defense: At 23% ownership, the Jaguars stymied the Bengals offense to seven points, registering a touchdown on their own and two sacks for more than 2x value.
WHAT FAILED?
Kareem Hunt: The production swoon since his hot start of the season continues for Hunt as he returned less than 1x value on 17% ownership. Hunt collected 61 total yards, four receptions, and did not find the end zone.
Mark Ingram: Compared to Alvin Kamara (and his own salary), Ingram was a disappointment this week in the comfortable win over Tampa Bay. At 17% ownership, Ingram barely hit 1x value with 79 total yards, a single reception, and not sniffing the end zone.
Mike Evans: Jameis Winston did not play in the second half and Evans struggled with both Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick under center with 1-13-0 in a complete dud effort on his 13% ownership.
Dez Bryant: It was the Terrance Williams show for Dallas this week and Cole Beasley collected the goal line opportunities. Bryant missed the final chunk of the game with an ankle injury and barely eclipsed 1x value on the week despite 20% ownership.
Michael Thomas: At 32% ownership, Thomas was a trendy pick against the struggling Tampa Bay pass defense. However, Thomas averaged less than nine yards per reception and did not find the end zone to an 8-65-0 stat line and barely 1x value.
Paul Richardson Jr: The $5,800 salary was well-received as 12% of lineups had Richardson against Washington. However, Doug Baldwin was the Seattle receiver to own as Richardson's 3-41-0 stat line was less than 1x value.
Michael Crabtree: At 16% ownership, Crabtree returned less than 1x value with 40 empty yards as Oakland centered their passing game on Jared Cook.
Harrison Butker: At 12% ownership, the Chiefs kicker was a chalk selection despite his $5,200 salary. The Chiefs managed 17 points and Butker logged a single field goal for less than 1x value.
Blair Walsh: The Seattle kicker returned the rare doughnut on the FanDuel scoreboard on 6% ownership without a single made kick (field goal or extra point) against Washington.

While most rostered options in the top-10 were moderate to highly-owned across the contest, here are some of the top performers with low-ownership in this week's tournament:
SHOOTING THE NEEDLE
Damien Williams: With Jay Ajayi traded, this week marked the first substantial opportunity for Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams in Miami. Williams, at a mere 0.5% ownership, surpassed 3x value on $4,500 salary, with 61 total yards, six receptions, and a touchdown.
Kenyan Drake: With owners wondering if the correct answer was Damien Williams or Kenyan Drake this week, the answer was 'yes'. Drake also returned value on his less than 2% ownership with 104 total yards, six receptions, and a two-point conversion for 3x value.
Alshon Jeffery: Few were backing Jeffery on his $6,700 salary (3% ownership), but amidst the Eagles' 51-point output against Denver Jeffery logged 6-84-2 and more than 3x value, his first game of 3x value on the season.
Terrance Williams: At 1% ownership, Williams dominated the yardage for Dallas' passing game with 9-141-0 before missing the final stretch of the game with an ankle injury. Williams returned 4x value.
Robert Woods: More owners were on Sammy Watkins this week than Robert Woods for a Jared Goff stack. Woods, at less than 2% ownership, hit 4-70-2 and close to 4x value.
Rishard Matthews: With Corey Davis back and Baltimore's defense, only 1% of the contest owned Matthews, who returned nearly 3x value with 4-70-1.
Jared Cook: The Oakland tight end was hot from the start with a succession of catches on the opening drive and much of his production in the first half. At 2% ownership, Cook hit 3x value without finding the end zone with 8-126-0.
Giorgio Tavecchio: With less than 2% ownership, Tavecchio nailed two long-range field goals on his way to 11 points and more than 2x value.
