DFS Roundtable: Ride the Wave

Chad Parsons's DFS Roundtable: Ride the Wave Chad Parsons Published 12/19/2019

Which strong producers from Week 15 are you riding again in Week 16 for an encore?

JASON WOOD

Saquon Barkley -- Barkley is finally healthy and it's showing. He'll want to finish the season on a high note and gets a divisional opponent in Washington to continue his comeback. I fully expect Barkley to be among the top scorers at the position this week, and he's a near-must for anyone building multiple lineups.

Julio Jones -- Never sit Julio Jones. With Calvin Ridley done for the year, and Jones seemingly rounding back to full health, Jones deserves to be on the shortlist of any build process. The Jaguars' defense is ordinary at its best, ineffective at its worst. There's no reason Matt Ryan/Julio Jones stacks won't be profitable in cash games, at a minimum.

PHIL ALEXANDER

  • Carson Wentz - No team has allowed more normalized fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks over the last five weeks than the Cowboys. Wentz stacks nicely with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, each of whom present mismatches over the middle of the field against a defense that badly misses linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
  • Saquon Barkley - He may have needed an assist from the hapless Dolphins defense to post his first big stat line since Week 8, but Washington's defense is just as forgiving. The Redskins have been annihilated by Aaron Jones (192 total yards) and Miles Sanders (172 total yards, two touchdowns) in each of their last two games.
  • Julio Jones - Jones' 20 targets last week in San Francisco with Calvin Ridley sidelined speak for themselves. The listless Jaguars defense on the opposite side of the ball is just the gravy.
  • Tyler Lockett - Lockett was hurt and now he's not. He'll avoid Patrick Peterson from the slot and feast on Arizona nickel corner, Byron Murphy.

DAN HINDERY

Saquon Barkley should have another strong game. He is finally rounding back into shape after the high-ankle sprain that he suffered in Week 3. He was able to make a surprisingly fast recovery to get back into the starting lineup but did so at less than 100%. Barkley recently noted that he noticed he wasn’t himself when reviewing his own game film but that he was finally regaining full confidence in his ankle heading into his Week 15 matchup against Miami. He went off against the Dolphins for 143 total yards and 2 touchdowns. In addition to his improved healthy, he benefitted from the matchup.

Kenyan Drake is a good bet to stay hot. While the four-touchdown explosion was a bit fluky, Drake’s general usage has been great ever since he arrived in Arizona. He has played between 64% and 88% of the snaps in each of his six games (75% last week) and has dominated the backfield touches the whole way. He has at least 15 touches in every game and the other Arizona backs have combined for six or fewer touches in every game over this stretch. It may not look it on paper but the matchup is again a solid one. David Johnson had his most productive game of the season in the Week 4 matchup against the Seahawks, putting up 139 yards with 8 receptions. Seattle has given up big numbers to opposing backs in recent weeks. Last week, Christian McCaffrey had 33.5 fantasy points (FanDuel scoring). The week before, Todd Gurley and Malcolm Brown combined for 27.4 fantasy points.

JUSTIN HOWE

Julio Jones - Calvin Ridley is out, and Austin Hooper is limited, so Jones is again a target hog (20 last week). This is nothing new; back in 2014-17, with the Falcons lacking a Ridley-level No. 2 option, Jones drew a whopping 10.5 a game. His typical DFS knocks are concerns over his floor, which is obviously back to an elite level, and his perceived inability to score touchdowns. Jones isn’t very efficient as a red-zone receiver, but all the opportunity flows his way going forward. Barring a surprising late-week shutdown, he’s as strong a Week 16 play as anyone, Michael Thomas included. $8,000 is far too low a DraftKings salary.

Kenyan Drake - The David Johnson Era is over in Arizona, I finally feel comfortable assuming. Drake has taken on a 75% snap share to Johnson’s 27% over 4 games with both available, with 85% of the duo’s opportunities (carries + targets). He’s also taken on the short-yardage work that often kept Johnson’s value afloat, with 6 rushes from inside the 10-yard line over that span. Drake is a strong tourney play anytime he comes in under $7,000.
