Free agency can have a big impact on Dynasty fantasy football outlook at the tight end position. Below are eight tight ends scheduled to be free agents in 2023.
Mike Gesicki’s situation got more crowded with the trade of Tyreek Hill but a better offense could support higher production. Gesicki was largely thought of as a product of an offense with a weak supporting cast in 2019 and 2020, but Gesicki had the highest target share of his career 18.2% despite the addition of Jaylen Waddle. Gesicki will again be in a contract year if he does not sign an extension this summer.
Of the tight ends on the franchise tag, Dalton Schultz arguably has the best improvement in situation over the offseason as Dallas lost Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson while not addressing the wide receiver position in the NFL Draft. Schultz ranked sixth at the tight end position in 2021 (101) and could improve on his volume in 2022.
Dawson Knox broke out in year three, finishing 10th in points per game (10.8) and a career-high in receptions (49), receiving yards (587), and receiving touchdowns (9). Knox is more of a red-zone threat than a complete passing game tight end but an additional breakout in 2022 could make push him among the highest tight ends in the free-agent market. He appears to be trending towards a franchise tag in 2023 which would treat him in a two-year window of security.
