Roundtable Week 6: The True Reveal

Matt Waldman's Roundtable Week 6: The True Reveal Matt Waldman Published 10/12/2023

Welcome to Week 6 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.

This week's roundtable features these four topics:

Let's roll.

The True Reveal

Matt Waldman: For better or worse, which players showed their true fantasy value in Week 5?

As the great Mills Lane said, Let's get it on!

Adam Wilde: Love started the year with back-to-back three-touchdown games that have overshadowed an otherwise poor start to his season. He's completing just over 55% of his passes and is averaging 216 yards per game. He's also turned the ball over 7 times. His struggles are likely to continue.

Hopkins finally showed that he still has the ability to be a leading receiver. It certainly helped Ryan Tannehill to have his most productive game of the season. We've been spoiled in recent years with talented wide receivers succeeding right away with their new organizations. Normally, it takes time to adapt, and it appears that time has passed for Hopkins.

Goedert had his biggest game of the season after five weeks of the Eagles struggling in the red zone. His target share has been fine for a mid-tier tight end, and now he's shown that he can be the answer for the team's scoring struggles. He will be valuable going forward.

Ben Cummins: Love started the season hot, thanks to favorable matchups. Last week's poor performance is more indicative of what should be expected moving forward, though. Love is a bottom-half-of-the-league quarterback.

Goedert showed his true value when compared to the first four weeks of the season. Goedert caught 8 of 9 targets for 117 yards and 1 touchdown. He's simply too talented and playing in too elite of an offense to continue playing poorly. He's a top-six tight end for the rest of the season.

Watson caught 3 of 7 targets for 91 yards, but his big play came on a totally blown coverage. This feels like a good representation of what to expect moving forward. Watson is extremely athletic and is going to make some incredible plays, but he's going to be boom or bust thanks to the significant downgrade at quarterback from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love.
