Week 9 Offensive Sleepers

Sigmund Bloom's Week 9 Offensive Sleepers Sigmund Bloom Published 11/02/2023

Quarterback

Derek Carr, New Orleans (vs Chicago)

Carr finally broke through as a deep passer against the Colts last week, and this week, he'll face a defense that has given up three touchdown games to Russell Wilson and Jordan Love on 28 and 27 attempts, respectively. Sam Howell also threw for 388 yards against this secondary. The game is in the controlled, ideal conditions of the Superdome to boot.

Taylor Heinicke, Atlanta (vs Minnesota)

Free the Falcons offense! Heinicke will get a full week to prepare as the starter against the Vikings. He might not have the benefit of playing with Drake London, who is missing practice with a groin injury after leaving the Week 8 game, but the Falcons still have punch in the passing game at running back and wide receiver, and Heinicke was hooking up downfield with KhaDarel Hodge after London left the game last week. We could see just how much meat Desmond Ridder has been leaving on the bone.

Daniel Jones, NY Giants (at Las Vegas)

Jones is cleared for contact and ready to face the Raiders after a short week of rest that saw the team fire their head coach and general manager while we were sleeping off our Halloween candy hangover. Maybe that could give them a “ding dong the witch is dead” boost, but if you're looking for a high-ceiling streamer/QB2/superflex this week, Jones still offers the promise of added value as a runner, and hopefully, the team will be trying to get third-round pick Jalin Hyatt more involved as a deep threat with the #1 target Darren Waller sidelined.

Mac Jones, New England (vs Washington)

Jones lost his de facto #1 receiver Kendrick Bourne last week, but he's still set up for a good week because he's facing a defense that was already one of the worst in the league against the pass before it traded its top two edge rushers at the deadline. Desmond Ridder and Tyrod Taylor threw for multiple touchdowns against this defense. Surely, Jones can do well enough to be a QB2/Superflex candidate in a very thin week at quarterback.
