Sleepers at Quarterback
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville (vs Seattle)
Maybe Lawrence isn't a sleeper this week unless you were asleep for his stumblin', bumblin' game-winning touchdown run. Hopefully, the pass offense has turned a corner with Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter (more on that later) having success in the downfield passing game. The Seahawks are playing early and have one of the longest possible trip for a road game in the United States. They just got taken apart by Baker Mayfield, Emeka Egbuka, and a bunch of role players.
Mac Jones, San Francisco (at Tampa Bay) **Monitor Jennings/Pearsall Status**
Jones is not 100%, but he is the healthier of the 49ers' two starting quality quarterbacks. You read that right, Jones has been starting quality as long as he is piloting a Kyle Shanahan offense. He posted a strong QB1 fantasy game on Thursday with Kendrick Bourne as his top wide receiver and Jake Tonges as his receiving tight end. It's possible he gets back one or both of his injured starting wide receivers, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, but they did not practice to open the week. Jones has been more than good enough to consider as a streaming QB1 with or without his top receivers in a matchup against one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league that should force him to throw a lot yet again - Jones hasn't thrown fewer than 39 passes in a game this season.
Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta (vs Buffalo)
The last time we saw Penix, he was getting right against a Washington pass defense that just shut down and battered Justin Herbert. Maybe he figured something out, and the second-year quarterback had last week's bye to let those lessons set in. He'll be facing a Bills team that was just upset by the Patriots at home. If Josh Allen is on his game, Penix will need to respond, giving him a higher ceiling than if he were facing a team that would allow the Falcons to be conservative and rely on their running game.
Bryce Young, Carolina (vs Dallas) **Monitor Jalen Coker Status**
Young has only been a good fantasy quarterback against a Cardinals defense that was swooning in garbage time. He did make some strides last week against a vulnerable Dolphins pass defense, and faces an even more generous pass defense this week against Dallas. Dak Prescott is in peak form right now, so Young is going to be stretched to his limits, which can be a great thing in fantasy football. If Young gets playmaking slot receiver Jalen Coker back this week from injured reserve (Coker said he is ready), then that will improve the Panthers' passing game outlook.
