As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will examine one team per weekday with our quick-hitting Team Sleepers feature. These players might not be deep sleepers, but we will be highlighting players our staff thinks will surprise this year and outperform their average draft position (ADP).

This is a weekday series that will stretch through August 1. If you like this and want another, come back the next workday. Another will be here.

Sleepers on the Washington Commanders

Reasons TE Zach Ertz Could Be a Sleeper

  • Jeff Haseley: If he can still bring it, he's a tremendous value. He's a player you can draft as a TE2/3 that can strengthen your tight end position.
  • Jeff Bell: Ertz delivered a top 12 TE1 season in 2024 and holds an ADP of TE20 in early 2025 drafts.
  • Craig Lakins: Ertz will continue to be under-drafted due to his advanced age, but he finished as the TE7 in 2024. Round 13 is too late for him to be drafted with no added competition in the tight end room.

Reasons RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt Could Be a Sleeper

  • Jeff Blaylock: The fourth-round pick has speed, agility, great receiving hands, and outstanding blocking abilities. He'll see the field often.
  • David Zacharias: Fits the mold of Kliff Kingsbury's "lightning" back. Ready when Ekeler's wheels fall off.
  • Ben Cummins: Croskey-Merritt is a fun prospect who could matter in fantasy should Brian Robinson Jr get injured. He should be mixed in best ball portfolios as a last-rounder.

Reasons S Will Harris Could Be a Sleeper

  • Tripp Brebner: Harris signed a 2-year deal to succeed Jeremy Chinn at strong safety. Chinn finished 14th among fantasy safeties despite not playing full-time in 2024.
  • Kyle Bellefeuil: Will Harris looks destined to fill Jeremy Chinn's vacant IDP-friendly role for the Washington defense this season, making him a great defensive back target late in drafts.

Reasons RB Brian Robinson Jr Could Be a Sleeper

  • Phil Alexander: Borderline top-20 running back on a per-game basis last season. He returns to the same touchdown-friendly role but is still going around RB30.
  • Andy Hicks: His end-of-season ranking is not his production when he plays. Missing games does that. Austin Ekeler is another year older, and Robinson runs the ball well and gets touchdowns. A safe RB2.

Reason WR Luke McCaffrey Could Be a Sleeper

  • Maurile Tremblay: Generally going undrafted, yet penciled in as the primary slot, giving him spike weeks if Samuel's hamstrings bark.

Reason WR Deebo Samuel Sr. Could Be a Sleeper

  • Jason Wood: Samuel is being too severely discounted because of last year's injuries; he should return to being a multi-use weapon and disruptive playmaker in D.C.

Reason TE Ben Sinnott Could Be a Sleeper

  • Hutchinson Brown: The day two pick didn't have many flashes last year, but a lot of rookie tight ends start really slow. If veteran Zach Ertz is a huge risk to either slow down or have an injury due to his expiring age, so Sinnott could have a huge opportunity this year.
