Cam Ward is easy to root for; he's the kind of athlete and human being you genuinely want to see succeed. No one will be happier for him—and the Titans—if everything clicks in Year Two and he redefines his trajectory.
But my job isn't to root for outcomes; it's to deliver an honest, analytical assessment. And analytically speaking, there is very little to suggest Ward will be one of this year's surprise fantasy breakouts.
At his current cost (QB24), he's a non-factor in standard redraft formats, though he's garnering attention in Superflex drafts. While his price is undeniably low, several quarterbacks drafted behind him are more interesting lottery tickets, including Daniel Jones (QB25) and Aaron Rodgers (QB28).

The Landscape in Tennessee
This season marks Year Two of the Titans' latest rebuild. Last year, the franchise hired Mike Borgonzi as General Manager and selected Ward with the No. 1 overall pick. The early returns were brutally discouraging. Ward struggled across the board, Tennessee finished tied for the league's worst record at 3-14, and the team fielded a bottom-of-the-barrel product on both sides of the ball (30th in offense, 28th in defense).
Even the most optimistic Titans fans didn't expect an overnight fix. This offseason, however, substantive structural changes arrived:
- Head Coach: Hired Robert Saleh
- Offensive Coordinator: Hired Brian Daboll
- NFL Draft: Selected receiver Carnell Tate 4th overall
- Free Agency: Signed receiver Wan'Wan'Dale Robinson
- Offensive Line: Added two new veteran starters
- Defense: Rebuilt with six or seven projected new starters
Hope springs eternal, right? Unfortunately, like Flavor Flav, I "don't believe the hype" for two distinct reasons:
- Ward's dismal rookie performance carries damning historical precedent.
- Brian Daboll's extensive play-calling track record leaves much to be desired.
