Welcome to the Dynasty Trading Post, where we examine optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations on a weekly basis with real-world completed dynasty trades.

This week, we will look at players with sagging market value compared to their profiles and potential upside.

All trades are Superflex unless stated otherwise.

QB to Acquire: Matthew Stafford, Rams

A back injury for Matthew Stafford instills fear in the hearts of dynasty GMs. The older quarterback is one of the creakier options in the NFL, and the range of outcomes this year is vast, from breaking down and retiring to enjoying the pairing of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams like the peach juices running down his chin in Seinfeld. Stafford has finished in the lower QB2 range over the past two seasons, offering valuable depth for a contending-centric dynasty squad. With the hand-wringing in full effect, exploring a low-level acquisition is in play during the preseason.

Instructive Dynasty Trades

While giving up a future 2nd is not ideal this early in the season and for a lower-upside option, all of these real-world examples from this week are palatable. The ideal addition of Stafford fits for a team with an Anthony Richardson Sr. type as QB2 currently or some level of ambiguity of injury or job security for early in the season. The most appealing deal from above is the construction of D'Andre Swift for Stafford, plus a pick upgrade. Even if Swift is the clear starter and generally good this season, Stafford is at a premium position, and the 2nd round pick can foster in-season deals more easily than a 3rd rounder for lineup supplementation.

QB to Acquire: Tyler Shough, Saints

The older rookie quarterback has yet to separate from Spencer Rattler in the Saints' camp competition. On the flip side, Rattler has yet to separate from Shough either. Shough's Round 2 pedigree should ultimately prevail for a clarified starting opportunity. Shough already had a wide range in rookie drafts from back in May, going from the late 1st (less common) to Round 3, depending on the league. Exploit those who begrudgingly took Shough and seek a buy-low opportunity while the starting job is still up in the air.

These trades point to a falling market for Tyler Shough. Shough and Shedeur Sanders were in a similar range in rookie drafts before the preseason. Now, getting a 2nd on the Shough side is possible one game later. Shough being flipped for Day 3 rookie running backs or Keenan Allen types is very short-sighted as well, bailing on a Round 2 quarterback at the earliest exit point.

QB to Explore Selling: Shedeur Sanders, Browns
