NFL Showdown can be a fickle beast. Success in these contests doesn't come from blindly following median projections, but from creating leverage and building unique rosters. Fading the most popular plays can be risky, yet the biggest edges usually come from identifying the right low-rostered pivots and pairing them creatively with the slate's juggernauts.
With both DraftKings and FanDuel now using similar formats — a multiplier slot (Captain/MVP) that costs 1.5x salary and earns 1.5x points — the nuances between sites come down to scoring systems and contest dynamics. DraftKings' full PPR scoring and larger prize pools reward a slightly different decision-making process than FanDuel's half-PPR and softer fields, but the core principles of Showdown roster construction apply across both.
The advice in this article pertains predominantly to tournament lineups and strategy. For cash builds, median projections remain your best guide. For head-to-head contests, consider projections as well, but when two players have similar projections, side with the lower-rostered option.

Dak Prescott - Captain/Flex
Dak Prescott ranks sixth in passing yards per game (273.2), 12th in passing touchdowns (10), and second in passing attempts (246). He gets an Eagles defense that has struggled this season. They rank 21st in both EPA/Play Allowed and Dropback EPA Allowed.
Running Back/Wide Receiver/Tight End
CeeDee Lamb - Captain/Flex
CeeDee Lamb ranks at the WR position: ninth in Target Share (27.6%), second in Targets per Game (11.3), fourth in Receiving Yards per Game (96.2), eighth in Team Receiving Yard Share (35.2%), 16th in Team Air Yard Share (38.7%), ninth in Yards per Route Run (2.68), fifth in Targets per Route Run (0.32), fourth in First Read Rate (38.6%), and second in Endzone Targets (7). Lamb has been fantastic this season and is the best Captain play in this game.
George Pickens - Captain/Flex
George Pickens has seen 24 targets over his past two games. He ranks 14th in Targets per Game (8.3) and 17th in Receiving Yards per Game (71.3). Pickens is more of a boom-bust play than his teammate, CeeDee Lamb, but his upside is worth leaning into in tournaments.
Javonte Williams - Captain/Flex
Javonte Williams ranks 19th in Opportunities per Game (17.8) and second in Total Touchdowns (8). The Cowboys are 4.5-point favorites, and Williams has a decent matchup against an Eagles defense that ranks 21st in EPA/Play Allowed and 17th in Rush EPA Allowed.
Ryan Flournoy - Flex
Ryan Flournoy has a 74% Route Rate this season. On the Cowboys, he ranks third in Targets (36), Receptions (23), and Receiving Yards (234).
Brevyn Spann-Ford - Large Field Tournament Flex
After Jake Ferguson's drop that ended the game in Week 5, he played on a season-low snap rate (54%) last week. That coincided with Brevyn Spann-Ford playing on a season-high snap rate (46%) in Week 6. Spann-Ford saw two more targets and caught two more passes than Ferguson last week as well.
Kicker
Brandon Aubrey - Flex
Brandon Aubrey ranks just 16th in Field Goal Attempts (12), and he's made just two of his five attempts of 50+ yards this season. However, he has the capability of making 60+ yard kicks, which would increase his chances of finishing in the optimal lineup. And with the Cowboys 4.5-point favorites, more attempts could come in this one if Dallas is indeed able to control the game.
