News About AFC Teams

Buffalo Bills News

The Bills traded a 2026 second-round pick to the Chicago Bears for WR DJ Moore.

Why It Matters: The Bills are trying to upgrade Josh Allen's supporting cast to increase the chances of a longed-for Super Bowl appearance. Moore adds some playmaking ability and experience, but he isn't a big downfield target or true #1. This is a better fantasy situation for Moore than being in Chicago, but it hurts Khalil Shakir. The team also guaranteed $15.5 million of Moore's 2028 salary in addition to paying him $24.5 million each of the next two seasons, which is a big commitment to the receiver for his age 31 season.

Houston Texans News

The Texans traded C Juice Scruggs, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Detroit Lions for RB David Montgomery.

Why It Matters: Montgomery will immediately slot in as the lead back for a team that wants to run with the kind of physical edge that he is known for. This is a big boost to his value, but the Texans did overpay a bit for his services on what amounts to a two-year, $15 million deal. It's an indication that they expect the market to pay running backs better than they had in the past. The compensation was originally announced as a fifth-round pick, but a second team (rumored to be Denver) came in late to up the price tag on Montgomery. 2025 fourth-round pick Woody Marks will go back to being a change of pace and passing game back after being miscast as a starter in a down year for the Texans' running game.

Indianapolis Colts News

The Colts used the transition tag on QB Daniel Jones. Jones would get paid $37.8 million on a one-year contract if the two sides are not able to agree on a long-term deal by 4 pm ET on July 15.

Why It Matters: Jones will be a Colt again for at least 2026 coming off an Achilles tear, but now WR Alec Pierce can test the market, so the inability to sign Jones to a long-term deal could cost them Pierce. Jones was highly successful in the first half of the season, but his game started to show cracks right before he got hurt. Apparently, the Colts are more scared of not having a quarterback than they are of a repeat of Jones' collapse with the Giants after leading them to a playoff win that earned him a big contract.

Las Vegas Raiders News

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes EDGE Maxx Crosby could be traded this week and named Chicago as his prediction for Crosby's next team. Michael Silver of The Athletic wrote that Crosby has "exhausted all of his options" with the Raiders.

Why It Matters: The Bears just got an extra second-round pick, so they are set up to make this happen. The Raiders are going to take a step backwards on the field if they trade Crosby, but it sounds like they don't have a choice at this point.

Los Angeles Chargers News

Chargers starting center Bradley Bozeman announced his retirement. The team also plans to release starting guard Mekhi Becton.

Why It Matters: The Chargers' offense slogged through injury problems at tackle last season, and now they could be looking to replace all three interior starters on the line, with OG Zion Johnson also entering free agency and likely to draw a bigger number than the Chargers are willing to match. They should have two healthy tackles, but the Chargers have considerable work to do on the offensive line this offseason.

New England Patriots News

The Patriots released WR Stefon Diggs.

Why It Matters: This isn't a big surprise, given that Diggs was set to cost around $26 million if the team kept him. He ended up making the kind of difference the team hoped for when they signed him, coming off of an ACL tear, but he isn't an essential piece of the pass offense. Diggs will have a smaller role and salary wherever he lands, as the time of true fantasy relevance may be behind the 32-year-old.

Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots have "explored" trading for Eagles WR A.J. Brown, but that a source said the team thinks Philadelphia's asking price is "unserious"

Why It Matters: The Patriots might have to revise their position after the Bears got a second-round pick for DJ Moore. The Patriots have plenty of cap room to add Brown's salary, especially after releasing Diggs, and with one fewer receiver available, the leverage of their position weakens. It's a tough call as to whether the team will pony up the first-round pick plus package to get Brown, but after playing in the Super Bowl in only the second season of Drake Maye's career, they owe it to him to add an established #1.

New York Jets News

The Jets used the franchise tag on RB Breece Hall. Hall would get paid $14.3 million on a one-year contract if the two sides are not able to agree on a long-term deal by 4 pm ET on July 15.

Why It Matters: Hall is stuck in a terrible fantasy situation yet again, and might be for the long haul. New offensive coordinator Frank Reich could use him more as a receiver than Tanner Engstrand did, but the Jets will have one of the worst offenses in the league no matter what else happens this offseason. The team reportedly wanted a third round pick from the Chiefs at the trade deadline last season and buzz from the combine was that there would be a market for Hall to pay him over the franchise tag rate (the Jets were expected to only use the transition tag before that), so there's always a chance they could deal Hall, but don't hold your breath. The running back has made it clear that he wanted out last season, but to no avail.

Tennessee Titans News

Connor Hughes of SNY reports that the Titans have "significant interest" in free agent WR Wan'Dale Robinson.

Why It Matters: New Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll coached Robinson with the Giants, so the connection makes sense. They could also be in on Alec Pierce and have the cap room to sign both, in what could represent a huge boost for 2025 #1 overall pick Cam Ward's receiver corps. Robinson could easily repeat his 92-1014-4 stat line as a primary target and possession receiver. Expect this to be one of the first signings announced next week at something like $15 million a season over 3-4 years.
