When August rolls around, the fantasy football community usually reaches a consensus on most players. Kelvin Benjamin isn't one of those players. While he's averaging somewhere around WR47, he has been ranked between 31 and 70 at his position. What are your thoughts on him? Is he underrated or overrated? Or neither?
Clayton Gray: I'm not a huge fan of the Buffalo offense in general or Benjamin specifically. Still, Benjamin is easily the best receiver on the team. As a WR1, he'll likely turn in number worthy of being an every-week starter in most fantasy leagues. He won't be flashy, but he'll be a steady producer and is underrated.
Daniel Simpkins: I would rather have D.J. Moore, Kenny Golladay, or Mike Williams, all of whom are going after Benjamin and have a ton more upside if they hit. Even as the probable leading receiver for Buffalo, I don’t see much there for what figures to be one of the most anemic passing games in the NFL.
Jason Wood: Benjamin should outperform his ADP. As luck would have it, Benjamin was 47th last year so there is some anchoring bias. 47 catches for 693 yards and 3 touchdowns is what it took to rank 47th. Benjamin missed two games and was traded midseason, so it’s fair to say last year was rock bottom. Given the lack of viable alternatives, Benjamin is more likely a low-end WR3.
Chad Parsons: I am bullish on Kelvin Benjamin due to the combination of cost and depth chart position. Historically, even if Buffalo is one of the worst passing offenses in the NFL, their WR1 will hit or eclipse Benjamin's positional ADP, with upside from there. It is unlikely Zay Jones or any other receiver challenges Benjamin stuff and, while hardly any pundit is projecting it, what if their quarterback situation is not horrible this season?
Andy Hicks: Kelvin Benjamin may be the weak link of the 2014 first round wide receivers, but he can still be the number one wide receiver in this offense and very useful for fantasy rosters. His current asking price is very reasonable considering his upside. The arrival of Corey Coleman won’t affect Benjamin at all and Zay Jones is projecting more as a bust than a threat. The inexperienced quarterbacks will be a problem if they struggle, but both should be comfortable in the catching radius Benjamin has.
Aaron Rudnicki: I like him better with McCarron or Peterman under center than I do with Josh Allen, but that may not matter until midseason. Either way, he’s going to see plenty of targets as the clear No. 1 wide receiver on this team. He came into camp in great shape and highly motivated since this is a contract year, so I’d expect him to wind up well outperforming his current ADP. No way a WR3 from better offenses should be taken ahead of him.
Will Grant: I'd be very happy to land Benjamin as the 47th fantasy wide receiver drafted this year. On pure volume alone, he should be able to reach that level. He's easily the best wide receiver on the team and the Bills are going to need to throw a lot if they hope to compete this season. I think Benjamin is undervalued at WR47 and I can see him moving into the top 36 before the end of the pre-season. He's a great third wide receiver or flex option for your PPR fantasy team.
Devin Knotts: All signs point to the positive for Kelvin Benjamin. All signs pointed to Benjamin just not being motivated in Carolina whether it was the weight issues or the lack of development with Cam Newton. Benjamin is the most talented wide receiver on this team by a wide margin and on volume alone should exceed his wide receiver 47 status. If LeSean McCoy misses any time due to his domestic violence investigation Benjamin could be a top-15 wide receiver.
