Injury Expectations | Midweek Update | Week 6

Jene Bramel's Injury Expectations | Midweek Update | Week 6 Jene Bramel Published 10/14/2020

Wednesday Media Updates

***Dalvin Cook has a low-grade groin strain. Mike Zimmer refused to rule Cook out this week, denying the Vikings would rest Cook just because Minnesota has a bye week upcoming. However, it's unlikely the Vikings will clear Cook to play and risk a more severe injury. Do not expect Cook to practice this week. He'll likely be ruled out on Friday.

***Julio Jones is still not practicing after aggravating his hamstring a second time in Week 4. The Falcons listed him questionable last week but he did not have a realistic chance to play. He's likely closer to questionable this week but will need to prove he's confident in his health to see any significant snaps this week.

***Mike Evans did not practice but has played through a high ankle sprain for two consecutive weeks. He's expected to continue to play. Chris Godwin is expected to return from a hamstring strain this week if practice goes smoothly.

***Leonard Fournette continues to recover from a high ankle sprain and returned to a limited practice, his first in over two weeks. He did not too much and was observed briefly catching passes on the side. LeSean McCoy was also limited but reporters did not see him participate in any individual drills. Bruce Arians hinted the Bucs would have all their offensive skill position players back. Fournette would likely be limited if he plays, McCoy remains questionable at best.

***D.J. Chark looked to have rolled his left ankle when his legs tangled with a defender. He did not practice on Wednesday but the Jaguars will sometimes rest mildly injured veterans on Wednesday then increase their practice reps as the week progresses. We'll know more later in the week.

***Cam Newton was activated from the COVID-reserve list on Wednesday. He's expected to practice and return to play this week.

***Mike Tomlin was openly optimistic about Diontae Johnson's availability after a back contusion ended his Week 5 game early. Watch practice participation for confirmation.

***Drew Lock likely would not have played last Sunday had the Broncos played the Patriots. On Wednesday, Lock was reportedly throwing well during a full practice. He is likely to play this week.

THURSDAY NIGHT INJURY EXPECTATIONS

Here are the key offensive players listed on the practice participation or game status report for Thursday Night Football:

There is no Thursday night game this week.

Early week practice participation and playing expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team is limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
