Dallas, Team Vibes and Players to Target and Avoid

Footballguys Staff's Dallas, Team Vibes and Players to Target and Avoid Footballguys Staff Published 07/23/2023

As we race toward August, Footballguys.com will look at one team per day with our quick-hitting Team Vibes and Players to Target and Avoid, where we check out the overall mood of each team's offense and let you know the players we are in on (because they are great values at the cost it takes to acquire them) and who we're out on (because they are too expensive and won't give you a good return on that investment).

Cowboys, Team Vibes

  • Good - 4
  • Neutral - 10
  • Bad - 0

Staffers with Good Vibes

  • Nick Whalen: The Cowboys add Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore to one of the most talented teams in the NFC.
  • Chad Parsons: Wheels up for the passing game with Brandin Cooks added, and Tony Pollard should be good to go after his 2022 injury.
  • Craig Lakins: Moving on from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a blow, but it's not the complete step backward that some do.
  • Jeff Haseley: Dallas has a good mix of offense and defense. The biggest concern is their ability to adapt to Mike McCarthy's playcalling vs. the departed Kellen Moore.

Staffers with Neutral Vibes

  • Jason Wood: The roster remains largely intact from one of the NFC contenders, and while the loss of Kellen Moore is problematic, keeping DC Quinn was a coup.
  • Ben Cummins: The Cowboys have a talented offense but they’ll be dragged down by new play caller Mike McCarthy.
  • Phil Alexander: I'm not convinced Mike McCarthy's play-calling is so poor that it will submarine the Cowboys' top-5 scoring offense.
  • Jeff Tefertiller: I am lower on the offense than most. McCarthy is more reputation than results. Plus, losing Kellen Moore hurts. It will not all be sunshine and roses.
  • Dave Kluge: The Cowboys offense has been good for years, but they appear content to let it ride again rather than making significant improvements.
  • Andy Hicks: The subtractions worry me more than the additions help
  • Jeff Bell: If they strictly run Brian Schottenheimer's offense, their tight end skill and the lack of a power component at running back are potential issues.
  • Zareh Kantzabedian: It's been confirmed that Mike McCarthy will be calling plays in 2023. That's not great.
  • Ryan Weisse: The scare is that they want to run more, but they ran a lot in 2023. Expect a similar offense.
  • Sam Wagman: It remains to be seen how Mike McCarthy taking over playcalling will impact this offense.

Staffers with Bad Vibes

  • None.
