3 Dynasty QBs to Target If You're Rebuilding

Long-term dynasty buys

Dan Hindery's 3 Dynasty QBs to Target If You're Rebuilding Dan Hindery Published 08/14/2024

As a rebuilding dynasty team, one of the first roster spots you should look to address is quarterback. The position has the longest average career length by a good margin. Particularly in Superflex, adding long-term building blocks at the position gives you a sturdy foundation to begin your rebuild.

A successful rebuild often requires gambling on high-upside young players and acquiring them before they break out. Think C.J. Stroud or Jordan Love at this time last year. We will highlight two players in this mold below. However, it is also worth remembering that undervalued quarterbacks who can anchor your dynasty roster for much of the next decade do not have to be under 25 years old. We will kick off our list of three quarterbacks to target if you are rebuilding with a slightly older player who has a bright long-term projection.

When rebuilding, the focus is almost always on acquiring rookies, second-year players, and future picks. For good reason. We will highlight a pair of rookie quarterbacks below. However, focusing exclusively on age and experience is a mistake. The real goal is to make moves to improve our long-term chances of winning. We want players who can contribute to what we hope will be a contending roster in 2025 and many years into the future. Despite being nearly 30 years old and entering his ninth NFL season, Goff is exactly the type of long-term asset we should be looking to acquire.

Earlier this offseason, I analyzed the data to better understand quarterback longevity. One of the conclusions I came to was that Jared Goff is a better bet to still be producing at a high level five years from now than many of the younger quarterbacks who are more reliant on their athleticism. Goff is locked into a starting job for many years to come after signing a rich new contract this summer. He will operate behind one of the NFL's best offensive lines. Plus, his top weapons -- Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Jameson Williams -- are each very young and under team control for at least the next three seasons. Goff is set up perfectly for long-term success.
