August is the month when paying close attention gives you the biggest edge. We have to sift through a mountain of new information coming out of training camps this month, and the job is separating the signal from the noise. Try not to put too much stock in individual camp highlights, which really should not impact player values, and make sure one-off comments from coaches or beat writers that sound like good or bad news for individual players are understood in the proper context. While we have to be skeptical to some extent about hype coming out of camp, we also need to be lightning quick to adjust our dynasty valuations when there are real drumbeats: players exceeding expectations, solidifying larger roles than projected, and other developments that legitimately move dynasty values. Separating the wheat from the chaff and making quick adjustments where they are actually warranted is the goal.

That is the focus of this month's article: highlighting the players where late July and the first few days of August have already brought news or information that should impact how we value them. It has impacted my own valuations, as you will see below, and I want to walk through each of those pieces of news and why I think they matter.

Before going position-by-position highlighting player value movement, let’s do a quick update on the DTVC Plus tool and talk about the value of 2027 rookie picks.

DTVC Plus

The values in this article capture the moves from the first week or so of camp, but values won’t stop moving today, and we are sure to see major movement between now and the first Tuesday of September (when the next DTVC article comes out).

That is exactly why I built the new Dynasty Trade Value Chart Plus tool the way I did. One of my primary motivations was to have something that, especially at this time of year, lets me update values on a weekly or even daily basis as the news rolls in from training camps. That was simply not possible back when my only vehicle for updating dynasty values was this article, which comes out once a month.

We are now in peak season, and the value updates will be coming in fast and furious. For the next six months, expect dynasty values in the DTVC Plus tool to be updated at least once per week. I will time the updates this month to coincide with the release of the Footballguys Training Camp Reports every Tuesday morning. We have a huge team of dedicated writers digging in on every single team: listening to the local podcasts, following all the latest from the beat writers, and doing a lot of the hard work of figuring out what is real and what is hype that can be safely ignored, where the most important position battles stand, and which young players are impressing in camp. My big goal for this month is making sure all of that is reflected in the dynasty values, with the reasoning written out and easy to see, so you can pop in on August 11th, right after that first big batch of camp reports hits, make a trade, and know the values in the trade calculator reflect the absolute best and latest information on every player.

You may have noticed some recent upgrades to the DTVC Plus tool. In addition to cosmetic upgrades, the Team Power Rankings tab, when connected to your league, now shows 2026 power rankings alongside the overall dynasty rankings. These 2026 power rankings now drive the valuation of 2027 rookie picks. Plus, the league host integration has expanded. We have always had Sleeper integration. In the last month, we added full integration for MFL and FFPC leagues.

2027 Rookie Picks

2027 rookie picks have been extremely difficult to acquire this offseason. Some of that may change a bit as we get closer to the season and contenders start to focus even more on bolstering their Week 1 starting lineups. It is more important than ever for both contenders and rebuilding squads to be able to accurately value 2027 picks.

I have always found that the easiest way for me to truly wrap my mind around future pick values is to try to tie the pick to the college players who are most likely to be available when that pick is on the clock next summer. To that end, I have added 2027 college players to the Dynasty Trade Value Chart this month, along with initial values for the top prospects in the 2027 class that adjust based on your league’s scoring in the DTVC Plus tool.

This stacks up as an especially strong class. Part of what makes it exciting is not just the relatively sure things at the top of the pyramid at quarterback with Arch Manning (28 Superflex Value) and Dante Moore (24), but the sheer depth of quarterbacks with a realistic shot at the first round: Drew Mestemaker (14), LaNorris Sellers (14), Julian Sayin (16), CJ Carr (18), and others. Add in the fact that most of those guys bring at least some rushing upside, and this class has a chance, at least on paper, to look like the 2024 rookie class that featured Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Bo Nix. That class had six quarterbacks selected in the first round. If that happens again, the first round of Superflex rookie drafts ends up absolutely loaded. Then there is a generational talent at wide receiver in Jeremiah Smith (40), plus a number of other receivers with realistic first-round upside, with Cam Coleman (21) the obvious favorite to be the second one off the board. It is also a fun rookie running back class. While it lacks an obvious elite talent in the vein of Jeremiyah Love or Bijan Robinson, it looks to me like a class that should have a few backs who land as Top 50 picks and more Day 2 picks than the 2026 class.

Here are my 2027 Superflex rookie pick values for the first two rounds as of today:

The very early picks are highly valuable regardless of format. However, you can see the falloff in value happens much more quickly in One-Quarterback leagues than in Superflex, where late-1st-round picks project to be highly valuable due to the expected depth of the 2027 quarterback class. The fun thing is that these player values (which feed the pick values) will also be regularly updated throughout the 2026 college football season. 

Quarterbacks

Baker Mayfield

Superflex Value: 20 -> 16.9 (-3.1)

Contract negotiations with Tampa Bay fell apart, and it feels like this could be his last season in Tampa Bay. This is not a huge hit to his dynasty value, but he had a good thing going there: playing behind a solid offensive line and throwing to talented young wide receivers. He is definitely going to be highly motivated in 2026, but the unknown about his future is a fresh concern weighing on his long-term value.

Running Backs

Jahmyr Gibbs

Value: 51.2 -> 53 (+1.8)

I am moving Gibbs up into a tie with Bijan Robinson as the most valuable asset on the dynasty board. He should put up massive numbers in 2026, and a long-term extension similar to the one just signed by Robinson should happen in the coming weeks.

James Cook III

Value: 27 -> 29 (+2.0)

Cook feels like an underrated dynasty asset. He is locked in on a long-term deal with one of the league's best offenses, and his massive touchdown totals the last two years do not feel fluky. With plenty of indications he is going to be more involved as a pass catcher, he is in the conversation for RB4 in redraft this year, and he is exactly the sort of back you can feel confident in leading your dynasty backfield for the next few years.

Chase Brown

Value: 23 -> 24 (+1.0)

Keep an eye on the possibility of Brown signing a long-term extension with the Bengals in the next few weeks. If that comes together, his dynasty value would receive a real boost. As Joe Burrow recently noted, Brown is behind only Ja'Marr Chase in terms of the players they want to design plays for in the passing game, and Burrow added that Brown actually looks like a wide receiver when running routes. Burrow hyping him up publicly reads like a not-so-subtle message to the front office, and it raises the odds the extension gets done.

Bhayshul Tuten

Value: 12.5 -> 16.1 (+3.6)

You are hearing everything you could possibly hope to hear about Tuten and the high expectations the coaching staff has for him as he enters his second season with the Jaguars. He is a player whose redraft and dynasty stock could soar over the next month. In fact, he has already climbed to RB22 in best ball ADP, and that should preview a corresponding rise in his redraft and dynasty ADP. Liam Coen may be the sharpest run-game design coach in the NFL, which bodes well for Tuten's fantasy upside.

TreVeyon Henderson

Value: 19.6 -> 16 (-3.6)

If you are counting on Henderson to make an impact for your dynasty team this season, you were hoping to hear reports that he was emerging as one of the go-to weapons for the Patriots and making huge strides in the passing game as both a receiver and a pass blocker. It is still early, but the opposite has been the case. From all indications, this backfield is in the same spot it was at the end of 2025, with Rhamondre Stevenson leading the way and Henderson still relegated to the backup role. There is real positive momentum for a number of second-year backs right now (Bhayshul Tuten and Quinshon Judkins, for example), and a distinct lack of buzz surrounding Henderson.

Travis Etienne Jr.

Value: 16.7 -> 13.5 (-3.2)

Alvin Kamara restructured his contract, taking a pay cut to remain with the Saints. While I still expect Etienne to lead this backfield, he may cede more of the opportunity to Kamara than I originally projected.

Jonathon Brooks

Value: 8.5 -> 9.5 (+1.0)

Brooks is rising and has room to rise even more. There is little doubt he is the most talented back on the Carolina roster, and the biggest question is simply whether he can stay healthy.

Chuba Hubbard

Value: 7.2 -> 5.2 (-2.0)

Hubbard was always one of those backs whose value felt fragile because he is a solid but replaceable talent. He may be on the verge of being replaced. Brooks seems to be healthy, and he is the more talented back.
