Welcome to the latest edition of AMA Recap! We'll be summarizing our bi-weekly Discord AMAs, leading up to the 2025 NFL season. This week, Footballguys Analyst Dave Kluge takes a look at who you can snag in the last round of your drafts, his policy on hoarding quarterbacks in dynasty, and the longterm look of the 2025 draft class!
Mr. Irrelevant(s)
Go 'Stros: Who is your Mr. Irrelevant this year?
Dave Kluge: Meaning the guy I'm drafting in the last round of every draft, I assume? If Keenan Allen is still on the board, it's him. If he's gone, Brashard Smith. If he's gone, Tahj Brooks or Kyle Monangai.
Hoarders: Dynasty Edition
Len F: I am in a dynasty superflex league. What is your goal for the number of quarterbacks on a roster?
Dave: I hoard quarterbacks in dynasty superflex drafts. They come cheaper in the draft than they will on the trade market. I've been known to draft three in the first 4-5 rounds and try to trade one away. But in addition to grabbing some top quarterbacks, I like to sprinkle in some late-rounders as well. Last year, I was taking a lot of Sam Darnold and Malik Willis late. This year, Daniel Jones and Kenny Pickett.
Rookie Class, Down the Road
DonQuixotish: How do you think this rookie class will look three years from now?
Dave: Great question. I think Cam Ward is a lot better than people realize. I also have faith in Brian Callahan, who played an instrumental role in Joe Burrow's development. Of course, people hold onto pre-draft priors. So three years from now, I won't be surprised if the narrative around him is similar to early-career Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, or Justin Fields, where he is a very polarizing player.
I think Travis Hunter, Tetairoa McMillan, and Emeka Egbuka are all consensus top-24 WRs by 2027. They are all very good players deserving of their draft capital. The running backs are great in this class, too. I think Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton, Kaleb Johnson, TreVeyon Henderson, Quinshon Judkins, and maybe a few others will all be fantasy-relevant.
The tight ends are tough. A lot of good ones in this class, but it sometimes takes longer than three years to pan out. I think Tyler Warren will be an immediate contributor. I think Mason Taylor will step up more than people realize. Given the tone and conversation surrounding this year's class now, I think we'll look back on it in a few years with a more favorable impression than we do now.
Memories of Mitch
Texas Techsans: What is the most exciting sporting event you have ever attended? I went to F1 at COTA in Austin last year and am absolutely hooked now!
Dave: Mitch Trubisky threw 6 TDs against Tampa Bay in 2018, his second year in the league. I was at that game. I thought we found our franchise quarterback. You know how the story ends. But for a brief window in time...
