Quarterback By Committee (QBBC)

There are a couple of ways to approach the quarterback position in your draft. You can go after an elite option, or you can wait and use a committee approach.

If you choose the committee approach, you have to know which quarterbacks to target to make the best possible committee. Let's get to it.

Ranking the Defenses

You have to know which defenses are optimal opponents before you can find the right quarterbacks to go after. Below, you'll see all 32 teams ranked from toughest (New England) to easiest (Detroit) against opposing quarterbacks.

This means we would like our quarterbacks to face Detroit, Tennessee, Jacksonville, Atlanta, etc., and avoid teams like Patriots, Rams, Steelers, and 49ers.

Starting-Level Quarterbacks

If we are going to have a QBBC, that means we are not drafting a starting-level quarterback. The players below are listed with their projected fantasy points scored per game.

• Kyler Murray, Ari - 26.90
• Lamar Jackson, Bal - 26.06
• Dak Prescott, Dal - 25.24
• Tom Brady, TB - 25.03
• Russell Wilson, Sea - 24.83
• Justin Herbert, LAC - 24.22
• Aaron Rodgers, GB - 23.97
• Ryan Tannehill, Ten - 23.16

While there are always exceptions, those quarterbacks are generally considered the Top 10 at the position. They are in almost everyone's Top 12 and have very few (if any) question marks surrounding them. If you get one of those guys, you start him. Pretty simple process.

Beat Ryan Tannehill

The goal of a QBBC is to compete against quarterbacks in the Top 10. That means our goal is to find duos who will score more than 23.16 fantasy points per game.

High-Level Committee

This doesn't happen every season, but this year, there is a trio of quarterbacks just below the Top 10.

• Jalen Hurts
• Matthew Stafford
• Joe Burrow

These three players can creep into some top-10s, and they are in almost every Top 15 list you'll see.

So, while it would be expensive, let's see how good a committee you can get with two of these quarterbacks.

The good news is all three of those combos beat Ryan Tannehill's 23.16 PPG. The Hurts/Stafford committee even passes Herbert and Rodgers and gives us the equivalent of having the No. 8 quarterback. Not bad. Remember, though, the draft capital needed to acquire two of these quarterbacks is high. It would be more efficient to go ahead and take Herbert or Rodgers.

Value QBBC

Instead, we'll ignore Hurts, Stafford, and Burrow and find a QBBC based on value. And isn't that why everyone is here?

Looking through the 154 possibilities (if you want to see all 154 combos, they are at the bottom of this article), 14 QBBCs will beat Ryan Tannehill.

Of course, it's immediately apparent that there are two kinds of teams making up these committees:

• Teams where we know exactly who is starting at quarterback.
• Teams where we don't know the Week 1 starter.

So we have multiple QBBC options for this season.

The 3-Player QBBC: Trevor Lawrence and Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo

If you have no issues rostering three quarterbacks or want to bank on Lance getting the Week 1 nod in San Francisco, this trio (or duo if you want to exclude Garoppolo) is your QBBC.

The 2-Player QBBC: Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa

If you are concerned whether the 49ers will give some starts to Garoppolo and don't want to carry three quarterbacks, Lawrence and Tagovailoa are your targets.

The Non-Rookie QBBC: Kirk Cousins and Tua Tagovailoa

If you just can't abide taking rookie quarterbacks, here's your top option.
