Thursday Showdown Week 8

Disclaimer

These contests are intended to be fun as you’re watching the game. It’s incredibly difficult to get a real edge as there are so few options and in MME contests there are often many duplicate lineups. One play or one penalty can change the entire outcome of the game.

This article is going to have a heavy DraftKings lean simply because the decision making process is more interesting with the Captain having a salary premium to correspond with the scoring premium. On FanDuel, the pricing is the same for both MVP and flex, so just play either a quarterback or running back in that spot. There are scenarios where a wide receiver can pay off, but it’s difficult with it being the 0.5 per reception.

Format:

Apologies for the reduced format this week as well as the delay in release. We have some illnesses in the family it's been a bit of a struggle. We'll get back to the normal format on Sunday/Monday and going forward.

Captain Consideration:

  1. Randall Cobb- Randall Cobb is an excellent captain play tonight due to all of the injuries and illnesses that the Packers are currently dealing with. With Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling all out, Cobb should be in line to have a big game this week seeing a vast majority of the target share.

  2. Kyler Murray- The Packers run defense against quarterbacks has been abysmal this year as they're coming off of a game in which Taylor Heinicke ran for 95 yards last week and they have given up 36 or more yards to Jared Goff, Justin Fields, and Jameis Winston. Murray has not had to run much recently due to blowouts/game script, but with this projected to be somewhat of a close game, Murray should look to run more often on prime time.

  3. Aaron Jones- Arizona is allowing 5.0 yards-per-carry on the year. With Green Bay missing their top 3 wide receivers Jones should be in line for a big game here.

  4. A.J. Dillon- Same lines of thinking around Jones, the Packers could give the extra volume to Dillon, and at just $2,400 for a Captain spot he's in a fantastic matchup this week.

  5. Christian Kirk- The Packers have struggled with speed wide receivers as they allowed 122 yards to Terry McLaurin, 159 yards to JaMarr Chase, 92 yards to Diontae Johnson, 72 yards to Deonte Harris. Kirk has yet to have a breakout game this season but has shown the ability in the past and with DeAndre Hopkins banged up, could have that breakout this week at lower ownership.

  6. Chase Edmonds- Edmonds is coming off of a week where he had 69% of the snaps last week, and was highly productive with 15 carries for 81 yards. If it was certain that he would have the same role this week, he would be the #1 overall captain, but there is still some uncertainty that the team could go back to a James Conner/Chase Edmonds timeshare as Conner was productive on his 10 carries last week. Edmonds has tremendous upside in a positive matchup as Green Bay is allowing the 6th-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season.
  7. Equanimeous St. Brown- Someone has to catch the ball for Green Bay considering the injuries and illness. While St. Brown would normally be off-limits, his attractive salary of just $600 makes Brown a punt play option at the position either for Captain or Flex. Catching just a couple of passes will allow him to quickly reach value. Just beware of high roster percentages that could come with this salary.
