The Targets Report: Week 5

An aerial reality check, analyzing every team's target and snap share report, searching out the receivers who are, or who are becoming, true fantasy gold.

Week 4 provided the most significant fantasy heartbreak in wide receiver values, with Malik Nabers and Tyreek Hill's seasons ending. The Giants and Dolphins will need to reset and piece together their attacks, losing irreplaceable stalwarts. Add their losses to the Bengals' passing attack, which has fallen flat without Joe Burrow, and the continued disappearance of Ladd McConkey and Brian Thomas Jr., as the rollout has been rough.

But all hope is not lost.

Puka Nacua is on pace to smash receiving records. Xavier Worthy returned and opened the Chiefs' attack in a four-touchdown Patrick Mahomes II game. To cap it, Drake London, Kyle Pitts Sr., and Bijan Robinson were able to get Michael Penix Jr. rolling. How did the rest of the league's passing attacks break down?

The Target Report

I view target trees as "clean" or "dirty." Clean trees distill targets to their top options and give standout fantasy performances. Dirty trees are, well, a mess and rely on unpredictable possibilities. The charts below categorize these offenses.

Offenses with Top 2 Options > 60% Target Share

Team Throws Player Targets Stat Line Target % Snaps Snap %
Cincinnati 21 Ja'Marr Chase 8 5-23-0 38.10% 46 96%
Tee Higgins 6 3-32-0 28.57% 40 83%
Chase Brown 3 3-31-0 14.29% 35 73%
Detroit 25 Jameson Williams 8 2-40-0 32.00% 51 84%
Amon-Ra St. Brown 7 7-70-2 28.00% 54 90%
Sam LaPorta 4 3-39-0 16.00% 56 93%
Las Vegas 20 Jakobi Meyers 7 4-30-0 35.00% 51 98%
Brock Bowers 6 5-46-0 30.00% 40 77%
Ashton Jeanty 2 2-17-2 10.00% 44 85%
NY Jets 25 Garrett Wilson 8 6-82-1 32.00% 62 98%
Mason Taylor 7 5-65-0 28.00% 51 81%
Breece Hall 6 5-30-0 24.00% 40 63%
  • Chase and Higgins dominated targets. It did not mean much. Kirk Cousins. Jameis Winston. Please, Cincinnati, the fantasy community needs something.

  • The Lions have done a great job of feeding their main players, which has contributed to the most points scored in the league. Williams' target volume is encouraging, even if he has not put together consistent big weeks.

  • At one point, Geno Smith had 12 pass attempts and three interceptions. Meyers and Bowers received their expected pass volume as the Raiders have struggled without Bowers' health.

  • This distribution is precisely what we would want to see out of the run-heavy Jets offense. Taylor stepping into the role as the second target and Hall's pass game usage is the secret sauce to getting more Jets fantasy producers.
