The 2025 campaign is now in full swing. We will focus on waivers and trades until later in the season, when we will transition to players to stash, buy, and sell for the offseason. In today's "Dynasty News," we examine some of the week's larger happenings from a dynasty perspective.

Dynasty News: QB J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings

J.J. McCarthy was thrust back into the starting role with the injury to Carson Wentz. Ace beat writer Kevin Seifert had some interesting takes on McCarthy and the situation as a whole:

"Wentz sheltered McCarthy and Brosmer for as long as he could, but now it's time to find out whether either of them can play ... Brosmer, signed in May as an undrafted rookie, will be his backup. Together, they have thrown a total of 49 NFL passes and played 122 regular-season snaps. McCarthy, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, has sat out 23 of a possible 25 games in his NFL career (including the playoffs) because of the sprained ankle and a torn right meniscus that cost him all of last season ... A person with knowledge of the Vikings' thinking half-joked that O'Connell left Wentz in last Thursday's game because Brosmer -- who had a strong training camp and preseason -- might prove a better short-term option than McCarthy. With Wentz done for the season, now is the time to find out who -- if anyone -- the Vikings can move forward with at quarterback." McCarthy proved the naysayers wrong Sunday, but he will need to play well for several weeks to stop the wagging tongues predicting his demise.

McCarthy talked to reporters last week about biding his time, "I feel like it was just the allotted amount of time to where I feel like I can do everything on the football field, pain-free. A little bit of limitations here and there, but that's how high ankles work," he said. "I'm going to be feeling this thing for a little bit here from here on out."

With much ado, McCarthy had immense pressure to play well at Detroit Sunday ... and he delivered. The Vikings are now 4-4 and are eyeing the playoffs, so Minnesota will ride the youngster and see how it plays out. They have no other choice.

Dynasty News: Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

The Commanders offense has been riddled by injuries this season. Quarterback Jayden Daniels missed a couple of games earlier in the year and will now miss a few more as he was injured late in the loss to Seattle. He went to the ground, and the trainers immediately put his left arm/elbow in a cast. Dr. Deepak Chona, a sports medicine doctor, indicates that Daniels will miss extended time.

Coach Dan Quinn told reporters that the elbow was not fractured. With a 3-6 record, Washington will not be pressured to rush the star passer back to the field. It will be Marcus Mariota for fantasy managers. The Daniels injury does provide a buying opportunity for dynasty managers, giving aging quarterbacks plus a draft pick for the dynamic quarterback.

Dynasty News: QB Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has only played in two games this season, yet his team holds a 6-3 record. Mac Jones has played well with Purdy out of the lineup. Beat reporter Nick Wagoner gave an interesting update Sunday afternoon:

We read this mysterious quote to mean that the 49ers could roll with Jones as long as he is effective, then see how healthy Purdy is at that time.

Dynasty News: RB Trey Benson, Arizona Cardinals

On Saturday, Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon updated reporters on the status of tailback Trey Benson:

Hopefully, we will see the young ball carrier back on the field very soon. The Cardinals offense lacks a viable running game and will want to get an extended look at their young tailback.

Dynasty News: RB Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs backfield has been a mess for fantasy managers this year. It became a little clearer after Pacheco injured his knee in the Monday night victory over the Commanders.

Pacheco's absence meant that Kareem Hunt and rookie Brashard Smith split snaps against Buffalo. While most dynasty and redraft managers are focused on Hunt, now is a great time to monitor Smith's usage. He could see his pass targets increase as Kansas City becomes increasingly one-dimensional. Sunday morning, Tracy Wolfson gave hope that Pacheco would return soon.

The Chiefs missed Pacheco's tough running in the loss to Buffalo.

Dynasty News: WR Travis Hunter, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jaguars star rookie Travis Hunter was injured in practice last Thursday, and subsequently placed on injured reserve.

Not much is known about the injury, other than it was a non-contract injury occurring in Thursday's practice:

and ...

We expect Hunter to be sidelined for most of the remainder of the fantasy season. The sad aspect is that he was just starting to ascend as a receiver. There was good news over the weekend as Hunter's ACL is intact. The issue is with another knee ligament.

Sunday, Mike Silver gave a positive update on Hunter's prognosis for next year:

Ian Rapoport had good news Monday:

Tha Jaguars beat the Raiders Sunday and Parker Washington had a great game from the slot, catching 8-of-9 of his targets for 90 yards. With Brian Thomas Jr. also gimpy, Washington and newly-acquired Jakobi Meyers might be the Jacksonville receivers to roster in the near term.

Dynasty News: WR Jakobi Meyers, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Raiders traded Jakobi Meyers to Jacksonville for fourth- and sixth-round picks. His departure from Las Vegas was expected, but the destination was a surprise. Jacksonville has invested a lot in their receiving corps with the acquisitions of Travis Hunter and Tim Patrick this year and Brian Thomas Jr. last season. Meyers will be a solid fantasy starterr while Hunter and Thomas are sidelined, but there will not be enough targets to go around very soon. Meyers leaves a barren receiver room with only Tre Tucker a viable fantasy option. Rookie Jack Bech could see an uptick in snaps with Meyers gone. This team will look very different next season.

Dynasty News: WR Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders

Terry McLaurin missed time with a quadriceps injury, but was able to return to the Week 8 game against Kansas City. He likely came back too soon, as McLaurin was forced out of that contest and will miss extended time. He was ruled out of Sunday's game on Wednesday last week, indicating that the star receiver was not close to playing against Seattle. Washington has the Lions, Dolphins, and then a bye week next on the schedule, so we do not expect him to return until after the bye. This is a big blow to the Commanders offense, which has been riddled with injuries this season. Newly signed Treylon Burks saw his first action in a Washington uniform, trying to fill McLaurin's void Sunday night.

The Commanders offense looks much different without its star receiver. Making McLaurin's absence even more painful is that Luke McCaffrey was hurt early in Sunday night's loss to Seattle:

We do not expect McCaffrey back this season. These injuries leave just Deebo Samuel Sr., rookie Jaylin Lane, and Treylon Burks as healthy receivers for Sunday's game against Detroit.

Dynasty News: WR Jalen McMillan, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Before last week, we had not heard many updates on the injury or status of Tampa Bay receiver, Jalen McMillan. But, beat reporter Rick Stroud reported that McMillan's injury was a "neck fracture" and there is no timetable for return. For a receiving corps with Mike Evans already lost for the season and Chris Godwin missing time, McMillan's absence is dramatically felt. We are concerned about the nature of the injury, as this is the type of injury that could limit his career span. Saturday night, Stroud was asked about McMillan and responded:

It still does not sound like he is close to returning, given the reference to a neck collar, but we will continue to monitor the situation for you.

Dynasty News: WR Rashid Shaheed, Seattle Seahawks

New Orleans receiver Rashid Shaheed was rumored to be traded at the NFL trade deadline. The Saints traded Shaeed to the Seahawks in exchange for a fourth- and fifth-round picks. This is a big trade for the dynasty outlook of rookie Tory Horton, who flashed on Sunday night. Shaheed will step into the field-stretching role opposite Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Seattle uses multiple tight ends often so Horton will likely take a step back this season. Shaeed is a free agent in the offseason, so he will likely be playing elsewhere in 2026, opening the starting role back up for Horton. One note to keep in mind: Seattle offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak played the same role in new Orleans last year so he is familiar with his new receiver. The rookie makes a great dynasty buy now that he has been displaced in the starting lineup. As for the Saints, Chris Olave and Brandin Cooks will likely be the receivers most weeks.

Dynasty News: WR John Metchie III, New York Jets

Last week, John Metchie III was traded for the second time this season. Earlier in the year, he was traded from Houston to Philadelphia in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant. Now, Metchie is on the move again:

Metchie could not break into the Eagles receiver rotation, but the Jets only have Allen Lazard and Tyler Johnson opposite star Garrett Wilson. We will soon see what Metchie has to offer.

Dynasty News: TE Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers

Star tight end Tucker Kraft was lost for the season with a knee injury Sunday in the loss to Carolina.

An injury this late into the season could mean a later start to the 2026 campaign. Luke Musgrave now makes a borderline fantasy starter.

Dynasty News: TE Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars placed tight end Brenton Strange on injured reserve on October 7 with a hip injury. Last week, Strange was doing work off to the side of practice, so his return might be soon.

Strange had 23 targets in the four games before he was hurt against the Chiefs. If your dynasty team needs tight end help, now is the time to make a move for Strange, as he could easily be a fantasy starter down the stretch. The lack of healthy receivers could amplify Strange's fantasy impact.
