Roundtable Week 4: Footballguys' Subscriber Contest

Matt Waldman's Roundtable Week 4: Footballguys' Subscriber Contest Matt Waldman Published 09/28/2023

Welcome to Week 4 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. We split the conversation into separate features.

This week's roundtable features these four topics:

Let's roll.

Footballguys' Subscriber Contest

Matt Waldman: We're three weeks in. Please share the following:

  • Your roster.
  • Your construction strategy.
  • Are you still alive?
  • If so, what are you enthused and worried about?

Fill us in.

Jason Wood: My roster...

My strategy is generally to ensure I have depth at all the positions because this is ultimately a contest of trying to score enough consistently to never have a crater. Too many contestants treat this like a redraft league and only roster two defenses and two kickers, and that's a mistake. But in order to build a deep roster, you have to forgo most top-tier players. My goal was to ensure my highest-cost players were those where I had a major difference between ADP and my projections, and I was able to do that with Justin Herbert, Jahan Dotson, Joe Mixon, and Darren Waller.

I'm still alive after three weeks, but I don't view my roster as a true contender, unfortunately. My receiver situation is dire as no one, including Dotson (my top target), looks remotely capable of top-25 production. It's hard to last long in this contest with peashooters at receiver. I'm also disappointed with the Giants' inability to make use of Darren Waller -- who was by far one of the best preseason/training camp players on any NFL roster this summer.
