What's New At Footballguys

📣 Voice Of The Footballguy 🎤

📊 POLL RESULTS: In our last issue of the Daily Update, we asked you Footballguys:

Which rookie RB takes control of his backfield first?

And the Footballguy says: I trust TreVeyon Henderson more than the Patriots do.

TODAY: Clayton Gray’s deep dive into how player values are shifting in high-stakes NFFC drafts reveals one clear trend — quarterbacks are climbing.

Among the biggest movers this week: Lamar Jackson surged 6 spots, Jayden Daniels climbed 4, and Bo Nix jumped 8. But which of these rising QBs most deserves the boost?

So today, we ask you Footballguys:

🗳️ POLL: Which rising QB most deserves their recent NFFC ADP surge?

When you vote in the Poll below, you'll see the current standings, and we'll post the final results in the next edition of the Daily Update.

1. DEN: Bo Nix more comfortable

Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla

Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix appears to he more comfortable this offseason and seems to be doing things with more confidence, according to head coach Sean Payton. 'Less pause, less hesitation with the play call in the huddle,' Payton said. 'Less pause, less hesitation in the pocket. He's playing fast. Again, protecting the ball. He's hard to sack. He was hard to sack in college. You're seeing him play faster with more confidence.'

Our view: Nix got better as the season went on last year, in both fantasy and NFL teams. The team added Evan Engram in the offseason in addition to Nix being more comfortable in Sean Payton's offense. Nix's arrow is pointing up from a place at the end of last season that already justifies his ADP as a low QB1.

2. NO: Alvin Kamara to continue to have big role

Source: NewOrleansSaints.com - John DeShazier

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara will continue to be a significant part of the running and passing game in the new offensive scheme, according to head coach Kellen Moore.

Our view: Kamara was a top five PPR back last year, but he is falling to the fourth round or later in drafts right now. There's not a lot of confidence that he will maintain his level of play and production from last year going into his age 30 season with Spencer Rattler or Tyler Shough at quarterback, but that creates enough of a discount to keep him in consideration at his current ADP.

A fantasy draft is all about obtaining the most value with each selection. Value is available throughout a draft; grabbing it is one of the most important keys to a successful fantasy team. To point out this value, we asked our staff to identify players available in the top half of your draft who should outperform their draft position.

Three quarterbacks quickly gathered interest. See what our staff has to say about each underrated player.

Underrated QB Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

Chad Parsons: Priced near his fantasy floor, Trevor Lawrence adds two notable reasons for optimism in 2025 to have his best season yet: Liam Coen and Travis Hunter.

Coen rewrote the career arc for Baker Mayfield and optimized yards for the Tampa Bay passing game. Travis Hunter has yet to focus solely on wide receiver. Still, Hunter was the second overall pick in the NFL Draft and will start on offense for Jacksonville.

The addition of Brian Thomas Jr., entering his second year, and Brenton Strange playing well enough in his first starting opportunity prompted the team to move on from Evan Engram, and Jacksonville now has a fully formed set of skill position weapons.Bhayshul Tuten has elite speed as a wildcard rookie for a backfield in need of a spark.

Lawrence’s DNA has been to prefer the difficult throws, needing more layups within the offense construction. Coen is a significant aid to Lawrence’s easy throws and confidence-building yards within the offense. Lawrence’s price is easy to fit as the secondary component of a quarterback committee for a fantasy team construction, with the upside to end up as a team’s top scorer.

Jason Wood: I'm as surprised as you are that Trevor Lawrence is one of the most undervalued quarterbacks in drafts. It’s fair to say I’ve been an ardent critic of Lawrence’s career to date, yet I find it impossible to project him anywhere close to his current ADP, which suggests he’ll make no improvement under new head coach Liam Coen’s watchful eye.

Coen worked wonders with Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay, and Lawrence’s skill set, pedigree, and upside are unquestionably higher. Brian Thomas Jr. is a true alpha, and the addition of Travis Hunter gives Lawrence the best pair of all-around receivers he’s had in his career.

The lone Achilles heel is the Jaguars’ offensive line, which is projected to be one of the NFL’s worst. But Lawrence’s mobility should help minimize the risk.

Dave Kluge: Despite coming short of his generational billing, Trevor Lawrence has proven himself to be an NFL quarterback. But after an injury-plagued and disappointing 2024, the team invested heavily in his resurgence.

Travis Hunter will serve as a schematic complement to Brian Thomas Jr., working underneath to pull defenses down and allowing for more downfield shots. Liam Coen had success in resuscitating a former No. 1 pick in Tampa Bay, and he’ll hope to recapture the magic a few hours north in Jacksonville...

3. WAS: WAS wants Terry McLaurin to remain

Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

The Washington Commanders reportedly would like for WR Terry McLaurin to remain with the organization for the rest of his career. He is entering the final season of his current contract and has been frustrated with the deliberate pace of contract extension talks, choosing to skip the team's mandatory minicamp last week.

Our view: Expect this deal to get done, as the Commanders are clearly in a Super Bowl window. McLaurin is being drafted at his ceiling, but there's good reason to think he'll be there, or even a tick higher if Jayden Daniels takes a step forward this year.

4. JAX: Travis Etienne loves new offense

Source: The Florida Times-Union - Garry Smits

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne said he thinks he will be a good fit for head coach Liam Coen's offensive system. 'He's been getting me in a lot of space,' Etienne said.

Our view: Liam Coen said there was nothing to reports that the new regime didn't like Etienne. Combine that with another report now that Etienne will be getting the ball more in space in Coen's offense, and it's possible that Etienne plummeting in drafts after the team took Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round was an overreaction. As we head into the NFL news dead zone, it might be time to move Etienne up and Tuten down until we start to get training camp reports. Etienne should get incumbent treatment to open camp despite being under a new regime.

5. NYJ: Breece Hall ready to compete for work

Source: ESPN.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets RB Breece Hall said he understands he is not entitled to play time and is ready to compete for playing time during training camp. 'I'm around a new GM, new coaches, a lot of new faces. So for me, I've got to prove that I'm 'the guy' every day. I feel like my skill set, I'm a three-down back and second-to-none to a lot of backs in the league,' Hall said.

Our view: This gives credence to the idea that Aaron Glenn wasn't engaging in pure coachspeak when he said the team will rely on all three of Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis this season. While that puts a damper on expectations for Hall, he could rise above the second year backs when the games count in September and make letting him fall out of the first two rounds in fantasy drafts look foolish. Hall has one of the widest ranges of outcomes in fantasy this year.

6. BUF: Keon Coleman struggling with drops

Source: The Athletic - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills WR Keon Coleman has to answer some 'consistency questions' after struggling with drops during minicamp, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic.

Our view: The team added Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore to the "everyone eats" pass offense, so there's not a clear path to consistent production for Coleman, especially if he's not showing clear improvement from a typically uneven rookie year. It's possible that no Bills receiver is trustworthy in lineups other than Khalil Shakir.

7. SF: Brandon Aiyuk embracing recovery

Source: NFL.com - Kevin Patra

San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is doing a 'tremendous job' with his recovery from knee surgery, according to general manager John Lynch.

Our view: Offseason comments about Aiyuk have outlined a wide range of outcomes in his return from ACL surgery. Anything from a Week 1 return ("a chance" per Kyle Shanahan) to beginning the season on the PUP list and missing the first 4 games is in play. Aiyuk won't be trustworthy in lineups in his first week back and it could take some time for him to knock off of the rust, especially if he misses all of training camp. It will be 10 and a half months since his ACL tear (October 20, 2024) when the season opens. Aiyuk is going after Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall in drafts, but he could be the most valuable of the three in the second half of the season.

8. NO: Cam Akers contract update

Source: NewOrleansSaints.com

Updating a previous report, free-agent RB Cam Akers (Vikings) signed a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints Friday, June 13. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our view: Akers will be competing to back up Alvin Kamara. This is not a sign of confidence in the backs the team currently has on the roster behind Kamara, most notably Kendre Miller, who was in the doghouse during the Dennis Allen era.

9. PIT: Jaylen Warren made changes to offseason routine

Source: Steelers.com - Dale Lolley

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren made adjustments to his offseason workout routine, in anticipation of shouldering a heavier workload at running back than he has in previous seasons, due to the departure of RB Najee Harris via free agency. 'I did a lot more things for longevity wise, instead of my old-school training like just getting the cleats on and running 30 hills,' Warren said. 'I had to adapt. This game is about longevity. And like they say, the best ability is availability.'

Our view: The wind went out of the sails of Warren's ADP after the Steelers took Kaleb Johnson in the third round. The mystery box appeal of rookie running backs immediately vaulted Johnson rounds ahead of Warren in ADP, but perhaps that was too hasty. It sounds like Warren will be treated as the starter to open camp, and while rookies can impress with their fresh legs, they can also be unreliable and suffer injuries adjusting the NFL grind. Warren might be underrated in fantasy drafts.

10. CLE: Cleveland open to having 4 QBs on roster

Source: Yahoo! Sports - Jori Epstein

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said that the organization is 'absolutely, absolutely, absolutely' open to keeping all four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster (Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders) if each of them plays well enough.

Our view: It's very difficult to project the Browns pass offense this year. Flacco is the favorite to open the season as the starter, and he would be good for Jerry Jeudy, Cedric Tillman, David Njoku, and really the whole offense. If the team is out of contention or Flacco plays the way he did at times in Indianapolis last year, the Browns could look to a rookie or Pickett. If that rookie is Shedeur Sanders, the passing game could be ok, but the team preferred Gabriel in the draft. Good luck predicting how this will go.
